One of the many things that irk me

is the following conversation:

Kara: Hey "so and so."
So and So: Hi Kara, how are you?
Kara: I'm doing good, how are you?
So and So:

I asked you a question. Granted, I really don't give a shit about the answer, but you could at least say "I'm fine, thanks." THAT is the way the conversation is supposed to go, not as it's listed above. That's your lesson in etiquette for today. Live it, learn it, love it.

In general, I agree with you. However, that is only if this is a *stationery* conversation. If this is a passing each other in the hallway conversation, than I completely empathize with the hypothetical "So-and-so" character. And in a mobile,hallway conversation I don't even think you can count that lack of response as an ettiquette faux pas.
