What a week

1. Damn Yankees...

2. Have you learned NOTHING from your Hollywood frenemies!?

3. Good god, doesn't ANYONE stay together anymore?

What has gone on this week. People are crazy.. must be the holidays. Cash Warren and Jessica Alba got engaged, as did Josh Duhamel and Fergie.. I think it's nice that Cash is gonna make an honest woman out of Jessica.. that's sweet..

As for me.. I've been a slacker this holiday, huh!? My bad.. I'll try to get you caught up!

We won our last two soccer games to finish the season in second place with a record of 7-1. Our double header was TOUGH!! I admit, I was totally winded AND played like shit, which is not a great combination. Luckily, our many fans cheering us on helped and we pulled out both games. The last game we played was a tad scadnalous, as we scored a goal when their entire team wasn't on the field. However, Rudy the Ref told us to play and you do NOT mess with Rudy!! The woman who didn't make it back from the bathroom in time spent LITERALLY 15 minutes bitching to Rudy, but it was to no avail. She then bitched at the front desk about it, but again, it did no good. We start a new session this week with our new name: Wu Tang.. We wanted to be pootie tang, but it was deemed inappropriate.

I had dinner with my friend Crystal, who I went to Ireland with, her sister Jenny, my friend Rachael, who I went to visit in Ireland, her sister Shaine and Rachael's man Danny.. What a doll.. He's living in Ireland but is originally from New Zealand so I basically just wanted to listen to him talk. I'm a sucker for an accent. Unfortunately, with us four girls he could hardly get a word in edgewise! It was such a great time though. We had a great waiter and entertaining conversation, not to mention great food at Moscatiello's. What more could a girl ask for?!

It's time for me to practice on the Wii. I'm determined to beat J at bowling (I've already killed him in baseball and the home run derby, but he's got me at bowling so far).

Revelation

Today is the first day I realized that in "Walk Like An Egyptian" by The Bangles, they say "foreign types at the hookah pipe say." I always thought it was "foreign types in the hooker place say." I like my version better.

I'd write more, but Tre and I got the Wii for Christmas so... that's what I'll be doing. Yes, we're 31. Yes, we're spoiled.. Don't you wish you were too? ;)

Christmas = Friends = Good Times

Last night we had a party at our house, as my friend Chris is in town for the holidays from South Carolina. I think everyone had a great time and there was TONS of food!!! I made these seasoned pecans, which were a recipe I got from my cousin Chrissy (she likes to call them her "sweet nuts") and I also made a chicken wing dip that turned out really well. Yes, everyone was shocked that they were eating food made by me, and probably even more shocked that they enjoyed it! My ex Bill even came to the party. He and Chris moved down to SC at the same time, but he moved back last year. I haven't seen him in at least four years, and it was really nice to hang out and chat with him as well. Here are some pictures to keep you busy!

That's me and Amy... don't we look amazing from that angle?

Tara, me and Shani.. It's just like high school... ya know, minus the kids (well, for them). Higgie, Tre, Jen and I... It's like Columbia Greene all over again! Yeah.. last night was kind of a reunion type deal!

Time for me to get a move on. I spent my day cooking my chocolate peanut butter balls, more pecans and some chocolate chip cookies, so I'm ready to relax. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

I'm still stuffed

Last night was our holiday dinner for work. We left the office around 3:30 and started off with drinks. I had what was called a "cobalt highballer" consisting of milk, vanilla, chocolate and butterscotch liquers and vodka.. topped with whipped cream and chocolate chips. It was potent and good.. I could feel it after just one, which is sad cause I really don't consider myself a total lightweight, but whatever. We were having appetizers so I thought I'd switch to beer... when the waitress brought us another round of the same thing. Lord!!! My co-worker and I both drank water at dinner just to compensate for the fact that we were already half in the bag! Our dinner was good, even though we were the only table in the restaurant. I guess everyone else was finishing off their Christmas shopping or something! We went to Lippera's in Chatham, where I'd never been before, and I had filet mignon with mashed potatoes (extra mashed since i said "NO" to the veggies they offered) then finished it off with a chocolate ganache cheesecake and an "adult" hot cocoa... MMMM... might have to start making those for myself! I went home, put on my jammy pants and somehow didn't pass out from food coma immediately. I'm still in shock and awe over how that didn't happen!

Our winning streak is still intact. We won 5-3 on Wednesday night, but it was a see-saw kind of game. We got three goals really quickly (ok.. one of them went off one of their players, but it still counts!) and I think we got a little lazy and cocky. The other team started to put stuff together and I believe it was 3-2 at halftime. We came back swinging though, and would have kept them scoreless had they not scored off Nikki's face (she was still sore yesterday!). We play them in the first game of our doubleheader next week so hopefully most of us having the day off and the added allure of fans will be just enough to net us a win. We're in second place in our league right now, which is pretty awesome, considering the trainwreck we were last session. It looks like we're going to play in the Winter 2 session, although people do seem to be dropping like flies. I guess it's just the season!

We all know of my love for The Real Housewives of Orange County and Jeana Keough. This gives her just one more good reason to no longer be with her husband, Matt.

If you're a Scrubs fan and an Office fan, this could work out well for you. I mean, come on. Who didn't kind of give Roy another look after his breakup from Pam makeover?!

Matt Damon? Oh no.. I'm going to go with THIS list for my next man.. espcially cause Peyton is on it... but he's not as high as Bill Belichick, which on this list, is a compliment.

Miss Heroes already? Here's a pseudo sneak peek.

Not much else to tell ya.. it's been one of those weeks I guess, with everyone getting ready for the holiday. I have a lot of cookie baking in my future so I might not have a chance to post until after the holidays. If that's the case, have a great Christmas!!

My Nomination for Mom of the Year

Oh Lynne Spears, where did you go wrong? I really thought this story as "breaking news" on MSNBC was a joke. Oh well... maybe this one will do what Britney couldn't.. ya know.. be a mother! (Ok, i know it's laughable, but I'm really trying to give the kid the benefit of the doubt).

Last night, I took J to Five Guys Burgers and Fries for dinner. I'd been wanting to go there for quite some time, and since he'd never been there I thought it'd be a great place for dinner. Let me tell you, the burgers were really great! Luckily, the girl thought I only said one large fry instead of two, because there is no way I would have eaten a whole one by myself. You certainly get some bang for your buck! I mean, we each got a bacon double cheeseburger, drinks and an order of fries (from Rigby, Idaho, might I add) for just under $20. Not so bad (especially if you're paying for dinner)! After that we went to see I Am Legend. I thought it was pretty good. I think J would have thought better of it if at one point I hadn't dug my nails so deep in his leg that there's NO WAY he doesn't still have the marks there today. What can I say? I'm a jumper and there were plenty of opportunities to do so in this movie. I recommend this movie. I think anyone would like it, even if you don't like the sci-fi elements, as there are other stories to keep you busy!

Tonight is soccer night at Afrim's! We're playing in Latham at 8:30, which is a change from our original schedule, which had us playing about an hour earlier. Oh well, what can you do? We also play this team next week, so we want to kick their ass the first time, and make them not even want to show up next week! Ok.. they seem pretty decent, so really we'd just like to win. No one wants to break the streak! I think I'll stick to defense tonight, unless we get up by quite a bit. I do want that goal, but not bad enough to F up our system. Viva La Lushes!!!

Happy Hump Day... Do what you can ;)

There's someplace

I have to be.

Still Supporting...

Honesty may be the best policy in this situation.

Am I disappointed? Yes, but does that mean I'll turn my back on my boy? No.. I mean, he admits to doing it once and realizes what a mistake he made. I give him a lot of credit for admitting it. I only hope others take his lead and give themselves the opportunity to bow down at the feet of the fans for forgiveness. We all make mistakes, but the public eye magnifies them a million times more. I think if you take the high road, the fans will give the benefit of the doubt. That's why they're fans.

I'm anxious to hear the O's official statement on the situation, and what will happen to B-Rob in the meantime. I mean, can you really penalize him for a one-time thing he admitted to? The jury's still out.

It might not be as cute as last year

but the O's holiday card always gives me the warm fuzzies.

Remember that 10 pounds I lost? Yeah... Christmas cookies are going to shoot that to shit, I'll tell ya that much.

It's Nice to Know

that some people aren't afraid to stick up for you when it's obvious you're being thrown under the bus.

I need to get some work done today, but I managed to get J a grilling set for Christmas. He loves to grill, regardless of the weather, so I thought it'd be something he'd enjoy all year round. Now hopefully it'll come in before Christmas. I think tomorrow is the last day for standard shipping so I might be in decent shape. I might throw in a small bottle of Jack Daniels to go with it. I mean, who DOESN'T booze it up a bit when they're grilling?

I don't understand

why a substance called "cream of tartar" is in powder form. I had to buy some yesterday to make my snickerdoodles (which I subsequently burned this afternoon), and I looked all over the baking aisle and I couldn't find them. My dad happened to be working so I asked him, and he took me to the spice section, where it was pretty easy to find. I never would have guessed it was a spice of sorts. I mean.. it's called CREAM of tartar.. Hello!!! It should NOT be in powder form.

I got to leave work early on Thursday due to the snow storm that blanketed the region with our first really substantial snowfall. I'd say we had at least six inches. I was pretty terrified of driving home because I have to deal with the Columbiaville Hill, which can be mighty treacherous in snow and ice. Somehow I made it all the way home without even sliding once, which was great! I had figured I'd spend the rest of the day at home, but my friend Amy called and decided she wanted to go to lunch. Hell, she has a Nissan Pathfinder and apparently no fear of driving in said conditions, so I said "why not?" Amy, Fish, Tre and I all headed down to the Wunderbar for burgers and beers, and boy was it a great burger! I spent the rest of the day/night at home, watching TV and just buying time until I could go to bed. I was pretty damn bored, what with all that unexpected free time!

Mom, Tre and I went to Woodbury Commons on Friday. I believe we got all the Christmas shopping done that we needed, and I even managed to coerce my mom into buying me a couple more things to stick under the tree. Not so bad! I was pretty beat but had to go to bowling that night, where (as per usual lately) i bowled tremendously bad, but we won the first half of the league which means a little more money in my pocket at season's end than usual. After that, I met J at the Rennselaer Elks Lodge, where he was playing darts and drinking with some buddies. This was my payback for him picking me up from Winter Walk. What I don't understand (and need to work on) is that when he picks me up, I'm ready to go. When I pick him up, I'm still out for four hours after that! Anyway, i had a couple beers and played some darts, then we went back to his friends' house as there was a challenge going down on Madden Football. It was around this time I started to fall asleep and was consistently awakened as I wasn't paying enough attention to the video game. J had said we'd leave by 12 - 12:30 but we didn't get to go until around 1:00. I didn't really care, but at that point I was just beat to shit. It'd been a long day.

Saturday morning J took me out to breakfast and I asked him if we were exchanging Christmas presents. I didn't care either way, but I didn't want him to get me something and have me be empty handed. He said "I told you I was getting you a Peyton Manning jersey like.. six months ago!" So I guess now I have to figure something out... 9 days before Christmas. If anyone has an idea, I'll take it! Anyway, after that I went to the store where said "cream of tartar" incident occurred and it was packed! I guess everyone was petrified about not being able to get out of their houses today so everyone and their mother was at Shoprite. As per usual, I got behind the slowest person in the world, who then proceeded to drop an entire gallon of water on the floor, soaking it and everyone around. Yep.. good times. Tre and I then went to a friend's house for a party, and we had a blast! There was great food, lots of beer and some people we hadn't seen in quite a while. We would have stayed longer but with the impending weather forecast, mom and dad picked us up around 10:30. To be honest, we didn't need to be there much longer. We both had the load on something fierce. Tre spent the night hiding beer cans around our host's house and I spent the night housing some chicken wing dip. My cousin needs to give me the recipe cause it was really great and seemed easy to make. Notice I said SEEMED.

We woke up this morning to a winter wonderland. it's been such a weird weather day. It was snowing early, then I woke up around 3:00 to the sound of freezing rain on the roof. Late that morning it started to snow again, then POURED freezing rain. Now it looks like it's not doing much, but I hear the wind is going to be prety insane. I really hope we don't lose power. I just don't have the time or the patience for it.

I caught up on some of the things that were taking up space on my DVR this week so here goes a quick recap:

Saleisha won America's Next Top Model. Once they booted Jenah early in the episode, it was kind of a no-brainer. When the Cover Girl commercial was shown, it ended with Saleisha's face. That, and Chantal shit the bed during the final runway challenge. She reacted when she made one of the guys on stilts fall. Big mistake.. Big.. HUGE! So, your winner is Saleisha. I still don't get it, but that's why I'm not a model scout, I guess.

Project Runway was a bit of a tear jerker this week. Everyone was relling from the exit of Chris, when Jack decided he had to leave the show himself. It appears he had a staph infection on his face that just continued to get worse and it would have been detrimental to his health (and maybe the health of others) to stay. Everyone was upset, and then Tim showed up to save the day, inviting Chris back to compete. He got a late start so he was able to stay up all night to finish his job. The assignment was to create an outfit for a woman who had recently lost a lot of weight, but to use the clothes she was wearing to create the new outfit. All but one woman had normal clothes on, but another had a wedding dress and youcould tell everyone was praying they wouldn't get her. Steven was the unlucky one, and he got booted because of it. I'm so going to miss him, even if it's for nothing more than saying "sweet merciful crap" when he realized he had the wedding dress girl. He and Elisa were in the bottom two this week and I think if Steven had used more of the wedding dress fabric in his creation (he made a black dress and only used the wedding dress as collar and cuffs), the judges might have saved him for another week.

That's about all I can handle for today. I've got movies to watch and laundry to do! Drive safe and hope you enjoyed your weekend and got all your Christmas shopping done!

Speculation

That is basically the gist behind the Mitchell Report. I mean, the majority of what is revealed is that athletes used steroids before they were considered illegal. Wow... shocker. My baby, Brian Roberts has been implicated in the Mitchell Report and here's what it said:

Bigbie recalled meeting Kirk Radomski in 2003 during a trip to New York. Segui introduced Bigbie and Brian Roberts to Radomski over lunch. Afterward, Segui made a steroid purchase from Radomski from inside Radomski’s car, which, according to Bigbie, was heavily stocked with performance enhancing substances and paraphernalia. Roberts was not present.

Brian Roberts is an infielder who has played for the Baltimore Orioles since 2001. He has been selected to two All-Star teams.
Roberts and Larry Bigbie were both rookies in 2001. According to Bigbie, both he and Roberts lived in Segui’s house in the Baltimore area during the latter part of that season. When Bigbie and Segui used steroids in the house, Roberts did not participate.
According to Bigbie, however, in 2004 Roberts admitted to him that he had injected himself once or twice with steroids in 2003. Until this admission, Bigbie had never suspected Roberts of using steroids.
In order to provide Roberts with information about these allegations and to give him an opportunity to respond, I asked him to meet with me; he declined.

That's all it says about him. I mean, is that sufficient evidence? I think not.. and I'm honestly not just saying it because it's Brian Roberts. I think the whole Andy Pettite-Roger Clemens thing is kind of bullshit too. I mean, Pettite admitted to doing it to heal quicker, not to give him an edge, and it wasn't when the drugs were considered illegal by MLB. I just really hope that MLB doesn't penalize these people for past dalliances. I mean, if the drugs weren't considered illegal, how can you harm them for it!? If a player gets caught now (Jay Gibbons, I'm speaking to you) they deserve everything they get, as it's been made quite obvious what drugs are legal and what drugs are illegal AND it's no secret that everyone involved in MLB is going to get drug tested. If you get caught, you're an idiot. Don't get me wrong, I didn't read the whole report (it WAS 409 pages long, give me a break) but it seems that little information we didn't expect was found. Basically, it's just given a lot of people bad reputations they may not quite deserve.

Why am I here?

I'm at work.. everything is shutting down in anticipation of the snow that's coming, and that makes me not want to be here even more. It doesn't help that my sister is a teacher and today is her second snow day of the week. Couple that with the fact that we both have tomorrow off to go Christmas shopping with my mom and you can imagine how badly I want to leave. After the guardrail incident I'm a tad skittish when it comes to driving in snow/ice, so my co-worker and I have devised a plan to get out early. Hopefully it works. I'd tell you about it, but I'd have to kill you.

I'm a tequila.... Speaking of which, does anyone watch that damn Tila Tequila show on MTV? I admit, I don't, but there have been marathons aplenty and i know the final two are a guy and a girl that looks like a guy. I never got that.. If I were a lesbian, I'd totally date a hot chick.. not a girl who looks like a guy... However, I'm pulling for Dani, the firefighter from Florida. She seems like a cool chick and as manly as she is, she looks better than me in a bikini... Bitch.. It could be over now for all I know, but I figured I'd give my opinion anyway!

Here's a funny for today and the holiday season.

Ike Turner died... and Tina doesn't really care... Maybe truth and time don't tell all after all, eh Justin Bobby!?

Golden Globe nominations were announced early this morning. Atonement led the pack with seven nods, followed by the as yet unreleased Charlie Wilson's War with five nominations. I really love the Golden Globes because even comedies get a shot, as do TV shows. Plus, it just seems like one hell of a party. I hope people don't boycott due to the WGA strike.. that would really put a damper on mine and C. Howe's Fashion Preshow..

The Lavendar Lushes are still on a winning streak! We won our game last night 5-1. One of our girls scored her first goal, so now it's only me and my friend Heather that are scoreless. As I said, we both play defense so it's not like it's easy for us to score goals, but I decided to try some offense for the last 15 minutes of the game last night. I did get a few scoring chances, but it just didn't happen. It was very frustrating cause I had a few nice shots, just couldn't get them in the net. Oh well, we won and I should just let that go and stick to defense... Unless Heather somehow scores a goal. Then it's over..

Talk about speaking too soon

This was in my inbox directly after I got done with my last post. My timing is impeccable.

People are Strange

Last night, I took myself out on a date to the movies to see Before the Devil Knows You're Dead. Anyway, the movie begins with a sex scene between Marisa Tomei and Phillip Seymour Hoffman where he's doing her from behind. Well, these four women sitting in the front of the theater started giggling like 12 year olds that just found Daddy's Playboys! I was like.. ladies.. come on.. for real!? I mean.. yes.. sex scenes do make a lot of people uncomfortable, but they had to have been sitting 20 rows in front of me and I could still hear every giggle and "oh my goodness" uttered throughout the scene. I just found that to be weird..

So yes.. I took myself out on a date for many reasons:
1) I ran a whole mile at the gym without stopping. I walked for a few minutes, then ran another half-mile without stopping. I don't know what got into me, but it's scary to know that I'm capable of that.
2) J and I were supposed to go to the movies, but he was sick. I didn't think that was a good enough reason for me not to go.
3) I've really been jonesing for popcorn and the little theater popcorn is WAY better than the Cinema 8.
4) Bargain Night!
5) The movie I saw is more of an independent movie and I'm never sure how long they'll stay in the theaters around here (or if they'll come at all). I was pretty surprised at the amount of people in the theater last night, as I was pretty sure I'd be the only one in there. Then I realized the other two choices were Bee Movie and Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium. I guess the parents had to see something!

So, did I miss all the paparazzi rumblings or was she THAT discreet about it?

Ever wanted to live in a snowglobe?

Quick baseball note: The O's did NOTHING during the Winter Meetings and (unfortunately) the only name that's been mentioned in the last few weeks is Jay Gibbons, for his 15 game suspension. The Mitchell Report is coming to light, so we'll see how our favorites fair..

Tonight is the season finale of America's Next Top Model, which segueways into the WB's new reality trainwreck, Crowned. Yeah.. I won't be DVRing that. My DVR is going to be pretty bored in the near future. As I was looking through my upcoming programs to be taped, I realized there was very little to watch. I mean, most shows have finished all they had in the can before the Writer's Strike. Now, I probably like reality TV way more than the next guy (and way more than I should), but PLEASE end the strike! I really can't take it!

It's hump day.. act accordingly. Tonight's yet another soccer game and hopefully we can continue our winning streak, although tonight's team does look to be tough and one of our better players is sick. We'll see what happens!

Contradiction

I know we're all still in shock and awe over the Alex news, but here's something good to share with you. Well, I think it's good!

(PS - if you don't know what the Alex news is, read the post just prior to this one.. )

Say it Ain't so!

Not my Alex!!!!

2 Weeks till Christmas

I'm happy to report I only know about a quarter of the songs on this list. Ok, I also only know a few of the songs on this list too.. Where the F is Dominick the Donkey!?

I watched Winter Passing last night. Gotta love a nice little independent film with great stars. Ed Harris (one of my favorite bald men EVER) and the re-pairing from Elf of Zooey Deschanel and Will Ferrell was a great cast. The movie is basically about this girl who returns home to Michigan after her mom kills herself so she can make some money from a publisher off old letters her parents wrote to each other. Both parents were prolific writers and their daughter's childhood seemed way past normal. When she returns she finds her father in dire straits, living in the garage, while a boarder and one of his ex grad students take care of the house. I guess you'd say it's a story about how some things aren't always what they seem. It was a decent way to spend an hour and a half. I really enjoy watching Zooey Deschanel, even though the whole movie I just wanted her to run a brush through her hair. She looked.. disheveled.. Maybe it was the cocaine (in the movie I mean.. what she does in her personal life is NONE of my business).

Sometimes you want to strangle your friends. They usually redeem themselves, but still. Example: My friend Tim lives in Florida, and his parents live there for part of the year. His parents are friends with my friend Lynn's mother (the one whose grandmother died last week). So, last Sunday, I called Tim to let him know so he could tell his parents. When I called, I could tell there was a lot of background noise AND that he was drunk, but he promised me he'd call his mom right after he got off the phone with me. I stopped by Lynn's house on Saturday night and his mom was telling me that she never heard from Tim's mom, which is weird. So, Sunday afternoon I texted him to see if he called his mom and the text he sent back to me was this: "?" Oh yeah.. I was livid! I was texting him back as he called me about it and I told him the deal. I'll give him credit - he felt pretty terrible. Apparently he'd been at the Miami Dolphins game and started drinking at 10 am.. By the time I called him around 6 he must have been a puddle! He promised me he'd call his mom right then and there and I have the utmost faith that he did. I love him to pieces, but sometimes I want to strangle him :).

J and I were going to catch a movie tonight, but he's sick. I might just go by myself. I could really go for some movie theater popcorn and the movie I want to see is at the theater that has bargain night tonight. I would like to see Before the Devil Knows You're Dead and I know no one will want to see it with me. I can't wait till Chris comes home. I already told him I want to see Atonement and Juno when he gets here, so I hope I get some free movie passes for Christmas!
Damn.. I guess this means I need to go to the gym too. Damn..

The Hills finale was kind of anticlimactic to me. Lauren got to go to Paris after all (and she went.. FINALLY!) Heidi and Spencer are up in the air, which I think everyone already knew, and Lauren's big news was that the Hills would air another season and the trip to Paris would be a part of it. Almost makes me wish I'd watched October Road instead.

I wish I had more stories, but this is the best I could do for today. I hope I redeemed myself for those that gave me shit (you know who you are). Don't let the weather get you down.

Shit... ya know that book, The Historian, that I've been unsuccessfully trying to read for about 8 months? I lost my bookmark. Oh well.. I probably needed to start it fresh again anyway. Damnit!! I'm never going to get through it..

Let's Get to It

Project Runway - The challenge was for everyone to update the fashion faux pas we've all lived through. Some examples are overalls, dancewear, neon colors, cut outs ad the baggy sweater. Chris was booted when he couldn't find a way to update the terrible trend of shoulder pads. He picked a pretty bad fabric for his jacket and it still looked like it had shoulder pads, which was NOT a good thing. The judges continued to say his looks were a bit too "costumey" which makes sense since that's his real job! I will miss him as he did have his entertaining moments, but he did get along so well with everyone that it just bored you. I mean, it was no Ricky and Victorya bitchfest on his team, that's for sure. I"m still pretty sure they're only keeping Ricky around because he likes to fight with everyone and god knows, that's entertainment. This was a pretty boring episode but it looks like next week will bring us back to normal as there's scandal galore. At least that's what the facial expressions in the previews made it look like!

America's Next Top Model - Ok, it's pretty sad but I seriously can't remember who got booted. I think it was Bianca, but my mind is a blank.

The Hills - tonight is the season finale and I can't f'n wait! I'm mortified by it myself, but I just can't look away. Rumor has it that Heidi and Spencer are now NOT getting married which would be the smartest thing that girl has ever done. However, I hear they are still together, so I guess we'll have to wait and see what goes on during the finale tonight. Granted, she's no brain surgeon so she'll probably go through with it eventually, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who could do without seeing Spencer Pratt (and his trainwreck doppelganger sister) weekly on their television set.

It was a whirlwind weekend. I had all sorts of things I wanted to get done on Sunday and I actually did! I managed to clean my bedroom and bathroom (it was way past time) and made it to the gym, all before 1:00. Tre and I went to lunch with Danny and I settled in for the night.. Or so I thought. I finished up all my Christmas cards and cleared out my DVR. Tre had a soccer team party for her high school kids, but on the way home she picked me up so we could go to our friend's house for the Mayweather-Hatton fight. I was rooting for Hatton, but unfortunately, Mayweather knocked him out in the 10th round. I lost 10 bucks on that damn fight too. Anyway, I had no intentions of getting drunk, but we got home around 2:30 and I was pretty well in the bag. I got up the next morning around 11 so Tre and I could pick up Kate and Brian to go to the Siena b-ball game. I was NOT feeling that great. It's funny.. every year around Christmas I get a real good drunk on, then end up sick for a few days. It's like my immune system shuts down, just when I need it the most. So, I felt like crap most of the day yesterday and most of the day today. I think I'll dope up on some Nyquil tonight and see where that gets me.

Last night, regardless of the crappy weather, J came down and we watched Superbad. I really didn't expect to like it, but it was pretty hysterical! I mean, we BOTH stayed awake for it, which lately, is a pretty big feat. Granted, he'd had a few red bulls and I was overtired, but let's not think about that. I was actually up most of the night, as I was all stuffed up but didn't want to take Nyquil as it was so late. I got a brand new alarm clock that actually worked, so J was able to get to work on time, even though the roads were pretty crappy when he left. Our driveway was a sheet of ice when I went out to start my car this morning, so I was pretty unsure of how the ride into work would be. It actually went just fine and there are no new dents on my car.. today.

I guess it's time for me to get a move on. I've got movies to watch and Christmas cards to write (if I don't fall asleep first). If you are a teacher, I hope you enjoyed your day off (and oh yeah, you suck). If you're not, I hope you were able to drive safe into work and enjoyed your Monday. Only 15 days till Christmas!

Sensory Overload

My Aunt Debbie had a pocketbook party last night. OH... MY... GOD... I walked into her living room and it was like heaven. I'd never been to one before and didn't know what to expect and boy, was i pleasantly surprised! I don't have any idea how I narrowed it down to what I got and I think I might have to have a party of my own in the near future so I can get some more! I bought myself an adorable printed Kate Spade bag and a Coach wallet. The wallet goes well with the brown leather Coach purse my mom got me for Christmas. I, in turn, got her a Coach bag and wallet for Christmas. So, now she's done! I had to leave or I would have bought myself the Gucci purse I stared at for an hour and the Burberry purse I've wanted for ages. It really was just way more than my body (and wallet) could handle.

Our soccer game went REALLY well on Wednesday night. We won 8-0. The other team was very physical and we were all over the field. They had one girl who played goal for the first half. Good god, she was a HOUSE! When she played the field the second half no one really pressured her because she kicked it so hard and right at you. My sister has bruises and ball marks embedded in her skin from where she got hit by a ball this girl kicked at her. They were really whiny too. Big girl kicked the ball right into my friend's hand but the ref didn't call a hand ball cause it went right back to Big Girl.. She bitched for at least 20 minutes. Funny how she had nothing to say when the ref called a hand ball on Tre when it hit her in the back! We're doing really well in this division but it seems that we'll play some of the better teams in the coming weeks. So yes, we're on a winning streak but we're not getting too full our ourselves. However, we did realize it feels much better to win once in a while than it does to lose every game, that's for sure!

More to come (Hopefully)... Happy Friday!!!

Let's Get It On

It IS hump day after all.. but (unfortunately) that's not what I was referring to.

Soccer game tonight, at the newly opened Afrim's dome in Latham. The team we're playing is decent, so hopefully we can pull from our pool of spectators for motivation and kick their ass. Ok, maybe not kick their ass, but play really well! That would work.

Heroes - So... they said "two heroes would fall" and they did: Nathan Petrelli was shot and is seemingly fighting for his life (can't Peter use his powers to bring him back?) and Niki/Jessica should have blown up in that building, all because Monica can't leave well enough alone. Heroes comes back in 2008, although we're not sure when. Another thing, Hiro buried Adam alive in a grave in Japan. Hell, if someone can live forever no matter what happens, might as well make them live it somewhere hellish, right!? Who shot Nathan? Not sure.. looks like it could be HRG, after his little discussion with Claire about being the whistle blower, he surely wouldn't want Nathan to do the same. And Elle... she's still kicking and might even like being a hero. However, the next installment is "Villains" so hopefully she'll get back to her bat-shit crazy ways in a short while.. ya know, like Elisa on Project Runway.

October Road - Ok, I love me some Eddie Letekka and his love for the full figured ladies, but if he doesn't give up "the secret" in the near future I'm going to jam my hands through the TV and wring his neck. Physical Phil's "Tour of Infidelity" idea was priceless, but I don't see Ikie and Owen buddying it up anytime soon. And how horrid was that wedding dress? I know it was 1977 and all, but please.. My mom's was in the early 70's and it wasn't that bad.. I mean.. by today's standards it wasn't that good, but it surely wasn't that bad! (No offense Mom - she always reads the blog on the most inconvenient days!!)

I only saw the first installment of Tin Man, but I'm looking forward to catching up on it this weekend, so I won't go there with anyone. For some reason I doubt many of my blogging buddies are looking forward to me talking about it, but I might just do it out of spite.

As I said, I got sucked into a Beauty and the Geek marathon this past weekend, forcing me to watch the finale last night. The money was won by Dave and Jasmine, not Sam and Nicole, who I was rooting for. I'm almost giddy about watching the new installment of this "social experiment" when it comes back to TV next year. Damn you Ashton Kutcher.. First, "Dude, Where's My Car" and now this!? You're killing me Smalls...

Not much else to go with.. it's snowing here.. been going pretty slow and steady the last few hours. It's the pretty kind of snow.. I hope..

Just one more reason to watch Reaper

Sam's new girlfriend doesn't know who her father is (Sam thinks it's the Devil). However, in the beginning of the episode she told Sam her mother used to be a backup singer for Huey Lewis and that her father was one of the band members.. Yep.. one of the News.. Turns out she made up the story, but it's still a Huey Lewis shout out...

Ok.. two reasons... the song that closed the show was by Guster. I mean.. what more could you ask for?

More TV stuff later when I get the time.. After all, Heroes ended this week and people are quite possibly... dead... kind of.

PS - I never got to mention this during my Project Runway rant last week, but even though I don't sometimes love his clothes, I adore Steven. He says the funniest shit regardless, but his delivery is priceless! When talking about the Tiki Barber challenge from last week he said (This is obviously not a direct quote, but I'm going to use quotations anyway) "We were all feeling... well, what is it that the people felt on the Titanic? Oh yeah.. PANIC." I think he might even try to take over Santino's Tim Gunn impression... As long as Steven doesn't get all Red Lobster and Andrae on me, I think he'll be fine...

Winter Walk 2007

Here's me and Lindsey at Savoia.... Yep... Savoia.. Oh yeah.. Savoia was invaded by the white women.. I don't think they minded.
This pic is from the pregame party at Fish's.. That's me.. corrupting my friend's children..
I don't think there was anyone in our group that felt good on Sunday. We went to Fish's house for her annual Winter Walk pregame, then headed down to Savoia to meet up with my aunt, uncle and cousin. This was an actual line that was thrown at me that night: "Girl, the minute I saw those hips and thighs I was like DAMN, I've got to come over and talk to you." Did it work? No, but I it sure as hell didn't hurt the ego! What can I say? Black men love me.. It's all about the ass. Anyway, I persuaded J to come get me around midnight and I'm pretty sure even that was too late. I was a MESS.. He basically had to tell me our entire car conversation when we spoke the next day. I woke up around 8 am with what felt like a heartbeat in my skull, took some aspirin and went back to bed. I felt much better when I woke up again around 11. Tre and I went to get my car and some grease and we settled in on the couch for the balance of the afternoon. I got totally sucked into a Beauty and the Geek marathon on MTV (on accident) and that's basically how I spent my day.

Tonight I had to go to a wake for my friend Lynn's grandmother. She died on Friday morning and I tried to get together with Lynn all weekend, because I really didn't want the first time I saw her to be at the wake. I wanted to get the whole crying thing out of the way, cause I knew I wouldn't be able to hold it together. I mean, I didn't know her grandmother's name for most of my life, because I called her Gram! She was practically my grandmother too and ever since my grandparents died, grandparent wakes kind of get to me more than they probably should. Anyway, I was doing really well.. then I got to the receiving line. Her aunt says "you girls have to take care of Lynn" and the tears started welling up in my eyes. I got to Lynn's mom and somehow didn't bawl my brains out, but then came Lynn. We both just started to cry, blaming the other one for making them do so. I tried to hold it together but I just couldn't. I know there were other people there I probably should have stopped to see, but seeing Lynn was more than I could take. It's so weird to know exactly what a person is feeling, and not be able to do anything to help them.

Well, on a lighter note, two of my friends had babies this past week. My friend Katie, who I went to high school with and is now living in France, had a baby boy, Eric Paul Yurkewicz, this past weekend. He's very adorable and she was lucky enough to go into labor two weeks early, so they can still have not only their first Christmas in France, but their first Christmas as parents, so congratulations go out to Katie and Adam. I can't wait to see the new addition when they make it back to the States sometime this spring. My friend Crystal (she's my friend Chad's sister) had a baby of her very own last week. I can't wait to make it to Philly to see her and her husband's new house and now, their new baby! Congratulations to Crystal and Mark, and of course, to Chad for finally becoming an uncle! Poor Crystal... now Chad has someone new to corrupt.

I just finished watching Trainspotting. Interesting.. For those of you who've seen it, I couldn't watch the toilet scene. Absolutely repulsive, but I'm glad I finally saw it after hearing so much about it, It certainly lived up to the hype. I also watched Me and You and Everyone We Know this weekend.. Again.. interesting, but I can't say I really liked it. I think it just wasn't what I thought it was going to be and if I could explain it any other way, I would!

I'd write more, but Heroes is on and I need to concentrate since it's the season ender (for now) and with the writers' strike, lord knows when the next time I'll see a new episode will be. Also, I watched the first installment of Tin Man last night and while I'm FAR from a sci fi geek of any sort, I thought it was entertaining. But those damn flying monkeys were creepy..

The Streak

No, it's not as illustious as Cal's, but we'll take it. We won our soccer game last night. Not only did we win it, but we kicked some major ass, winning 6-1. We actually looked like a team, feeding each other balls and passing like it was our job. We have a great time playing, but it's definitely more fun when you win! Our next three games are pretty early, considering the last two have been at 10:30! However, we've won both of them so maybe we're night owls!! I can't wait until next week, as usual!

Let's get to the TV: America's Next Top Model. Heather was finally eliminated after a couple of rocky weeks. Don't get me wrong, I liked her and I'm glad she went as far as she did. I never really expected her to win, but I'm glad she went so far. The bottom two were Heather and Jenah and I'm really happy Jenah stayed. They kept giving her issues about her attitude, but it's not like she told Nigel he had a stick up his ass like Caridee did a few cycles ago! I think they just don't get her sarcasm, and I'm sure after being in the bottom two, she'll reign it in just a bit. So, the final four are Bianca, Saleisha, Chantal and Jenah. I'm still rooting for Jenah. She's been my pick from the start.

Project Runway: Wow.. what a bunch of BULLshit! Those designers must have flipped their lids when they got their challenge: Design a MENSWEAR outfit for Tiki Barber. I mean, if you've watched the show at all it's basically womenswear. I think the only time they've had a crack at menswear is the makeover challenge last season, and not EVERYONE had to do menswear. Anyway, Jack (our resident HIV+ hottie) was the winner, but I thought Kevin and Kit did better than he did. Not that he did poorly, but they had more involved outfits and I hate it when people pair stripes with stripes. But hey, Tiki's the one that has to wear it, so it's up to him! Carmen (like the opera) Webber (like the baller) got the heave-ho, but shared the bottom two with her partner in bickering, Ricky. Carmen basically sent her model down the runway in a short Members Only jacket (which only works on Rosario from Will & Grace) and no shirt. When you "forget" to clothe your model, it's a pretty good bet you're going to be Auf Wiedershened!!!

I had more, but it was a busy day at work. I'll try to make up for it later. Enjoy your night!!!

Over the hump?

I went to Weight Watchers for the first time in forever last night. They gave me that scolding, disapproving look, but I ended up losing 1.6 pounds, bringing my grand total to 11.4 pounds. I FINALLY got past the 10 pound mark. It took long enough, but I guess beggars can't be choosers. Muscle weighs more than fat, right?

In case you haven't heard

Julianne Hough pulled off a repeat, as she and Helio Castroneves were named the Champions of Dancing with the Stars. I was pretty happy as, after the finale, I really felt he deserved it. He danced so well and looked like he had a good time doing it. I mean, Mel B has danced before in her life so it's nice to see the guy with no experience come in first. I think that's four guys in a row winning the show though. It's really time for a girl to step it up! And oh yeah.. apparently Helio (much like Julianne earlier this year) has called off his engagement.... Need I say more?

Apparently blind date boy found my blog. Yikes... I'd apologize but he's already seen it and I have a feeling he won't be looking at it any time soon... My bad... and you all wonder why I took the web address off of myspace. This is a pretty good cautionary tale, don't you think!?

I'm DYING to try this game but it's during working hours.. maybe while I'm trying to kill time before our soccer game... at 10:20 again this week.. Maybe we can log another (real) win and get on a streak! I don't know if we could handle that... we're so used to losing that winning two in a row might just put us over the edge.

That's all for now.. Hump 'em if you got 'em, as always!!!

Playing Catch Up

That's what I feel like I've been doing lately, and I don't think I'm very good at it! Just wanted to update you on something very important: We won our soccer game last Wednesday night! It wasn't quite as easy a win as we thought it was going to be however... We did go to Beff's for dinner and drinks beforehand and that is a mistake we will never make again. We just had too much free time before our game and we made some drunken use out of our time. By the time we got to Afrim's we all had pretty decent buzzes. A few people even played in the game before ours, as most teams were struggling for players. The team we played only showed up with two people, but were able to borrow enough to play. We technically got the win by forfeit, but we did end up beating them 3-1. Ok.. it was 3-2 but one of our players scored one of their goals so I don't think that should really count. Anyway, we looked pretty bad and I can tell you that we all learned our lesson. We have another 10:30 game this week but I think everyone will be stone cold sober for it. Heading a ball when you're buzzed does NOT feel good.

Twiggy is being replaced as a judge on the next cycle of America's Next Top Model due to "scheduling differences." Paulina Porizkova will take her place.

Jo from The Real Housewives of Orange County is getting her own show. I sooooo love the Bravo network.

Dancing with the Stars finale aired last night and FINALLY, the judges were harsh (and truthful) with Marie Osmond. Her freestyle was kind of atrocious and showed off none of the dancing ability she was supposed to have learned all this time. Mel B is in the lead, but even her freestyle wasn't that great. I think it was a little too free and not enough ballroom. Helio honestly took the cake. His freestyle was by far superior, and you have to give the guy credit considering he has to do all the work on the lifts! I think I just like his cheesy grin and how you can tell how much fun he's having while he's out there. Hopefully the final two will be Mel B. and Helio and after that, I really don't care who wins.

Heroes - HRG is alive and looks kinda sexy without his shirt off. Who knew!? I'm still in love with Elle, but she'll probably be one of the casualties of next week's season finale. Good god.. no Dancing with the Stars AND no Heroes? Thank god October Road has made a comeback and boy is it a love fest for the fatties.. Way to go Eddie Letekka!!! Ok, I know if you don't watch the show you won't get any of that... but if you do... And Oh god.. the Hills... Justin Bobby is retarded, as we all know.. and Spencer has a sister.. who's as much of a jackass as he is.. Ah, genetics..

Recap: Black Friday

I do not do Black Friday shopping. I have yet to find something I need so badly that I'd get up at 4 am to combat millions of other people to get it! Well, my sister and my mother had decided they were going to go and I passed. Until they told me they were going to Woodbury Commons in Harriman for their Midnight Madness sale. I didn't think that sounded so bad since I wouldn't have to go to sleep, then get up crazy early. We left around 11 and were a mile from the exit at midnight. We made it into the parking lot of the outlets around 3 - 3:30 a.m. Were there any parking spots to be found?! Of course not! We literally drove in and drove out and basically were in the car for five hours to get breakfast at a rest area McDonald's. Good times. I begged her to just go to the next exit so we could turn around and go home, because after an hour of sitting in the back seat I was getting a tad cranky and tired. She wasn't sure where the next exit would take her so she decided we should stay where we were. Yep.. good times.. We went to the outlets in Lee on Sunday instead. There weren't as many people as I had anticipated and we got some good stuff. If anyone's interested, Mikasa is having a store closing sale and there are some great deals. I wish I had a house so I could get my own place settings. They're really nice and really cheap! Tre and I got lots of stuff for our bar for Christmas, but Mom let us have it beforehand so we would have plenty of stuff for our party. Then we came home and vegged... like I had all day Saturday. I watched a marathon of October Road and tried to watch Young Frankenstein with J, but we both crashed too quickly. I did end up watching it last night. I really try to like Mel Brooks movies and I do think they're funny, just not the masterpieces of comedic cinema the world seems to think they are. Except Spaceballs... I really liked Spaceballs.

I'm really looking forward to this miniseries on the Sci Fi channel, believe it or not. I was all excited about it and I told J how cool it looked and how I was looking forward to watching it, when he told me that he was the one who told me about it a month or so ago. Maybe he's right.. perhaps sometimes I'm not that great a listener... I think what happened was he said "There's this miniseries on Sci Fi based on the Wizard of Oz" and then his lips were moving, but I didn't hear anything else. There are three things in life that kind of give me the heebie jeebies. One is the Wizard of Oz. I think it has something to do with the flying monkeys. Two is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. You couldn't pay me enough to watch that movie.. it's like the worst acid trip ever (so I've heard) and it's because of that I couldn't even bring myself to watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (which just so happened to be on HBO2 when I got home today.. small world huh?). Number three is Mister Rogers. I loathe Mr. Rogers. He freaks me out. When I was little I would run out of the room when his show came on, screaming "No Mr. Rogers, No Mr. Rogers." My mom thinks it's cause when he came on that meant Sesame STreet was over, but I think it goes much deeper. Honestly, I think I just have issues with PBS cause as an adult I've had nightmares about Mummenschanz and the Letter People. So anyway, yeah, Tin Man starts at 9 pm on Sunday night and I'm very excited about it. I even persuaded my ex, Bill to Tivo it. You're welcome Sci Fi Channel!!!

HOLY CRAP

This is my 500th post. Can you believe it? I mean.. who ever thought we'd come so far? Um, not me, so I've decided to punctuate this post with pictures instead (ah, the alliteration)! It was a very long Thanksgiving for the Murphster
The girls at our first stop - Cantina's for Margaritas..
Nikki and I... believe it or not, EARLY in the night. It was a fun night.. can you tell?

Happy Day Before Thanksgiving

I don't have much, but I'll do my best.

Jennie Garth was voted off Dancing with the Stars, making the final 3 Mel B., Helio Castroneves and Marie Osmond... Yep... Marie Osmond. Sympathy only goes so far people... Hopefully she realizes she doesn't deserve to be there as much as everyone else. I'm not saying she's not improved.. just that she doesn't deserve to win. I'm going to guess Mel B will win... but Helio will put up a great fight. I'm looking forward to the finale, but then have no idea what I'll do with my Monday nights. What could possibly be paired with Heroes and my laundry as perfectly as Dancing with the Stars?

The sheriff finally came around 1:30 yesterday after two phone calls. They were pretty busy as there were many accidents. Matter of fact, the accident on the front page of the local paper was in just about the same spot where I ran off the road. I even saw the truck involved go by my house on a flatbed, so I guess I was the lucky one! Anyway, the Sheriff that comes looks 12. Literally... 12. He took some information and that was it. So, I guess he'll send me the report when it's ready, we'll see. I got to hit the gym early and clear my evening, but it was to no avail. J had worked from 4 am to 3 pm and wasn't feeling well so my night continued to be free. Figures, right? To make matters worse, I noticed today that Gone Baby Gone is now not playing ANYWHERE... Yep.. I missed my window. I'm thinking J will have to pay for that..

Tonight is ordinarily a night where we'd head out on the town (if that's what you can call Hudson bars lately), but we have a 10:25 soccer game. Therefore, we're all meeting up for dinner and drinks at Beff's on Everett Road, then heading over to Afrim's to terrorize everyone there. Don't worry.. we plan to sober up before our game. We have to come out with a win tonight after last week's devastating loss! The team we're playing tonight is 0-2 and have been beaten by pretty hefty margins, one loss being at the hands of the team we played last week. So, we're pretty excited and revved up for it. We don't have too many subs, but that might be a good thing since no one ever wants to come out anyway! We'll head home after that and probably hop right into bed! Tre and our friend Amy are running the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning.. They expect me to be at the finish line with bloody mary's. I expect to be on the couch watching the Macy's parade, but I might be tempted to bring them a little Irish hot cocoa to celebrate with! My whole family is coming over on Thanksgiving day and they'll get to enjoy our house, which Tre has already decorated for Christmas. She should NOT have the day before Thanksgiving off. No good can come from it. I'm not a grinch, it's just that it's not even Thanksgiving for goodness sake!!!!!

Anyway, that's my plan for the next few days. Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and I'll try to post on Friday but if I don't, expect some good pics from our Girl's Night Out in Saratoga on Friday night. It's gonna be a blast! Long live tryptophan!!!

Here I sit

chowing down on a Cinnabon, drinking chocolate milk, watching Clerks 2. Yep.. I'm home. I hit a guardrail on the way to work today. The minute I pulled out of my driveway I had no control of my car. I made it less than a mile down the road and was weaving all over. All I could think of was people saying "you have to steer into the turn" and all that crap, but if I had, the turn was going to send me right in between the wheels of a tractor trailer. It's true... you do see your life flash before your eyes when you think you're going to die. Luckily, at the last minute I was able to get away from the tractor trailer and hit the guardrail instead. How I didn't hit any other cars is a miracle to me. I really can't believe it. I finally settled on the side of the road and started bawling my brains out. I was fine, just didn't know what to do! Two good samaritans stopped, didn't laugh at me for crying and one of them even followed me home. I didn't call the cops because I figured I was the only one involved and there wasn't that much damage to my car. However, when I talked to my Dad he said I should call the Sheriff in case I need an accident report for my insurance company. So, I called, but there are a lot of cars off the road so he said it would more than likely be a while. I'm still waiting for my call back. At least it gives me an excuse not to be at work. I did call my boss and told her I wasn't coming in until it stopped, so we'll see when I go in. My arms are a little sore. I think I tensed up pretty hard when I hit. I couldn't have hit that hard since the airbag didn't go off, but I guess no matter what it feels like you're hitting at 100 miles an hour!

Now, what you've all been waiting for: The date. Well..on my way there he texted me cause the place we were supposed to go is apparently closed on Mondays. So, we decide to go to El Mariachi instead since we were on the Mexican tip in the first place. Yeah.. there is more than one El Mariachi. I went to the wrong one. I guess that made us even. I finally made it there about a half hour late and met him at the bar. All I can say is that he's a really, really nice guy! Just... not my type. There were no sparks whatsoever (at least on my end) and there were a lot of awkward silences during dinner. I'm not saying it was a bad date... it wasn't! He just isn't my Mr. Right, that's all. We had dinner, which he paid for, though I offered. We didn't make it to the movies, which was OK. I have a feeling we both felt the same way about the date, which is good. When we left I hugged him goodbye and told him I had a good time, which I did. Neither of us said we should do it again, so perhaps we'll just leave it the way it is. Let me just say, I don't think I'll do a blind date again. I don't know.. physical attraction is pretty key in a relationship and I'd like to go on a date with someone I'd like to make out with on a regular basis :)! Let me just say thanks to my friend Amy for hooking me up! Although it didn't work out, I still appreciate the fact that she cares enough about me to try to find me a man :). She's a good egg.

Obviously, not much else is going on. I did manage to still watch my shows last night. I have no clue who's not going to make it to the semifinals on Dancing with the Stars. It could go either way, but my vote (as always) is for Marie Osmond.

Heroes: wow.. what a great episode. SPOILERS AHEAD. I'm so glad HRG isn't really dead. I mean.. he's that type of character you really can't kill off. Also, while I never watched Veronica Mars on a regular basis, I still always had a soft spot for Kristen Bell. I honestly hope she never gets killed off Heroes, although I'm pretty sure she only signed on for a specific amount of time. I love watching her character, Elle, mess with everyone on the show and be so damn innocent about it. Thank god the show is finally getting back into form.

That's all for now. We'll see how the rest of the day goes and if/when I make it to work today. Enjoy your Tuesday.

Tonight's the Night

I have a date with blind date boy. We're meeting for dinner at El Loco and then perhaps going to the movies. I think we'll see Gone Baby Gone since SOMEONE didn't take me to see it this weekend because (as I predicted) he didn't get back from NC till 10:30 and then was tired all day Sunday. Cry me a river.. Anyway, I'm extremely nervous for a multitude of reasons, but I'm sure it'll be fine. And if not, well, I get to bitch slap Amy and call it a day. He said he'd be hard to miss as he's 6' tall and bald. I said I would be wearing a pink peacoat so I would more than likely be hard to miss myself. Blind dates are so nerve wracking! Ok, this is technically my first one, but I really haven't been on that many dates so I don't really know what the protocol is. I think as long as you don't get spincah in your teeth and don't put out, you're golden.

Last night I watched my netflix movies, Y Tu Mama Tambien and Kinky Boots. With Y Tu Mama Tambien, I learned a lot about Mexico. They like to fart and fuck (not in that order) and apparently they don't have razors, cause body hair is RAMPANT. I enjoyed the movie.. lots of sex.. I really don't know how they fake that kind of stuff.. It looked pretty damn real to me! Like I said, the movie was good, I just get distracted by subtitles. I know there were times I missed things because I was too busy looking at the subtitles, or for some reason, that subtitle just didn't come up at the time. Still, decent flick. Kinky Boots was also pretty good. The premise is that this English guy takes over the family shoe factory after Dad dies. It's pretty much going under, so in order to save it he decides to start making boots and shoes for drag queens and transvestites and start his own niche, with the help of a drag queen named Lola. Of course, no one wants to take Lola seriously and he/she makes friends and saves everyone's jobs. It was cute! My sister walked in at the climax with 8 drag queens on stage modeling the boots and of course, just rolled her eyes and said I was weird. What can I say? Sometimes I like British humor. Plus, Lola was in Love, Actually and that's a plus in my book.

Other than that, not much is going on. I was bowling quite crappy (do you see a trend here) on Friday night and was bowling next to my co-worker's husband. I left a pocket 4-9 split in the 10th frame (I know not all of you will understand, but work with me) and when I came back he made a comment. I went to hit him, but hit his chair instead. My hand started throbbing and I was pretty sure it was turning black and blue. Yeah.. it did. By Friday night it was a nice shade of blue and now it's mellowed out a bit, but still black and blue. I know, I'm an idiot, but he deserved it. Well, he would have if my aim had been better. Thank goodness I never took up boxing.

In the words of Pat Benatar....

HEARTBREAKER!!! That's what our game on Wednesday night was. We lost 1-0 and dominated the second half. I went back in with about four minutes left and when my sister came out she said "if they score, it's your fault." Well, 30 seconds later I'm sure you know what happened. I wouldn't say it was my fault, but someone needs to be the scapegoat, right? We had SOOOOO many shots on goal that I really don't know how we didn't score at least once, but such is life. It's just fired us up for next week's game. I think dropping down a level was a great choice though. The teams are definitely more our caliber and no one is running circles around our old asses. Perhaps we just need to get back in the swing of things.

Project Runway: I'm already in love, but good lord, where did they find these models? I mean.. last year's models were extremely fierce and walked like it was their job (ok.. it is, but you know what I mean). These girls can't walk to save their lives!? If there is ever another "mother fucking walkoff" I don't know if anyone will survive. I don't have time to do a full post on everyone, but I already love Rami and was so glad to see him win the first challenge. Christian is a bitchy little queen so you know he's going to be great television. Um.. I know Jack is gay and HIV positive and all, but good lord I love watching him on screen. He's drop dead gorgeous. Elisa is.. well.. so weird. That train on her dress was atrocious and she only got to stay cause Simone's coat didn't go with the outfit and it's never a good thing to sew the model into the dress. That rarely works. I think Carmen is pretty feisty and it looks like Jillian isn't as meek as she looks. Oh Project Runway, i think you were worth the wait..

My friend Amy called me on Wednesday night to basically scold me for not yet going out with blind date guy. Ok.. the "hard to get" comment.. Totally a joke.. What can I say? He hasn't technically asked me out and I'm old fashioned that way. I'm sure it'll happen in the near future, so take a chill pill my friend :)!!

My desk calendar is the ESPN All-Sports Trivia Challenge. Yesterday's question was: What is the score of a perfect game of bowling. I got it right :)

It's f'n cold outside. I hope J brings me a cocoa when he comes to get my car to give me an oil change. Again, he's the best non-boyfriend ever. He's a moron though. Last night he tells me that his cousin called and asked him what he was doing from 3:00 today through 7:00 Saturday night. Apparently she's driving her man down to NC and wants someone to go with her. Now, he hasn't recovered from his trip to VA yet.. Has been exhausted all week and wants to be in a car for 28 hours. I told him he was an idiot, which didn't make him happy. If he had told me the reason she wanted him to go was because this guy is now her EX man and she didn't want to be in the car with him alone, then I wouldn't have reacted quite the way I did. Personally, I say buy the mo' fo' a bus ticket and call it a day. So, he hasn't decided if he's going yet, but I know he will. Course, we're supposed to go see Gone Baby Gone this weekend and I know that's going to get shot to shit now so I'm a little peeved. Usually he's Mr. "if we have plans first, then I don't cancel them cause someone else asked me to do something." Whatever... I just really want to see this movie! I know.. pathetic, but I like the movies and there's lots coming out that I want to see. Thank GOD C. Howe is coming home for Christmas. We need to make a list of movies to see while he's home.

Time to work. TGIF and all that jazz. If I can think of more stuff, I'll let ya know. I haven't had much time to peruse the internet and such lately, and I'm not up on my Barry Bonds stuff so I'm sure there'll be more in the future. Enjoy your day and weekend!

Disaster averted

I mistook my chap stick for my glue stick. Believe it nor not, chap stick will NOT keep an envelope closed. Thank goodness I didn't go the other way. I have a feeling glue does not have quite the same effect as chap stick.. I really should find a new place to put my chap stick.

Matchbox Twenty and Alanis Morissette at Times Union Center

Who's with me!?

I agree

Grrrrr.

Cameron Mathison was the unlucky one to go last night on Dancing with the Stars. Granted, his second dance wasn't that great, but I think he should have made it to the semis. Seriously, Marie Osmond is STILL there? It's not even worth making a Mormon joke at this point.. I blame Oprah..

I think I like him better WITH the goatee.

Set your DVR's kids... cause Project Runway is BACK!!! I can barely contain my excitement. Finally, my Tim Gunn fix will be had! Now if only they'd do a new season of Shear Genius... I'd seriously never leave the house. Last night, I was watching The Real Housewives of Orange County and J goes "you really watch this... on purpose?" Um.. yes... yes I do.

J and I went to see Borderland last night. It actually wasn't terrible. A bit of torture and gore, but there was actually a story line and not too much gratuitous nudity. I mean.. it's a horror movie so of course there was some, but not as much as I expected. Imagine my surprise to see actors I actually knew! Rider Strong (Boy Meets World) and Sean Freaking Astin, in a role I think only he could play. Still, the pretty on the screen came thanks to this guy... I wouldn't kick him out of my bed for eating crackers, I'll tell ya that much! One down... at least two to go. Thank God Horrorfest only runs through Sunday. I let J know he has no choice but to see Gone Baby Gone with me and he was ok with it. I didn't really care if he was ok with it, but it seemed like telling him was the right thing to do.

Soccer starts up again tonight! Our game is at 9:30 and we're all very curious as to what our competition will be like. Hopefully we won't get our asses handed to us again this session, but you never can tell. I'll try to blog as quickly as I can about it, but I make no guarantees tomorrow. Hump 'em if you got 'em.

I'm even boring myself

Dayquil is a beautiful thing, even if it's the generic kind. I am feeling a tad better. Certainly not as sneezy and snotty as I was last night, that's for sure. I'm a little groggy, but better..

J and I are going to see Borderland tonight. It's one of the Eight Films to Die For that encompasses Horrorfest. As you know, I'm not a big horror buff, but some of the movies look kind of entertaining and more psychological in nature, as opposed to horror. He really only wants to see four of them, so I guess I'm getting off easy? The one I really did want to see is only playing Friday at 7, when I have bowling. Figures, right? Anyway, I hope realizes A) he's paying and B) he's SO going to see Gone Baby Gone with me ASAP.

Tonight is episode 2 of the Real Housewives of Orange County. I already hate the new housewife. She irks me.. I think I hate the fact that she's so full of herself and lets her husband bully around her 21 year old kid who is NOT his son. People like that bother me. I'm not saying the kid shouldn't respect the husband, but it should go both ways. I mean.. he's 21 and has a curfew? If I were him, I'd apartment hunt ASAP.

It's a quietly busy work day here today. Well, it would be if I weren't avoiding work at all costs. I don't know what's wrong with me but my motivation is nonexistent. I think it's the sickness.. or at least that's what I'm going to blame for my lack of billable hours. Do you think it'll work? Enjoy your evening.. Tomorrow starts soccer again so hopefully there'll be stories. Our game is at 9:30 and 10:30 the following week. That really puts a damper on our Night before Thanksgiving plans.. Guess we'll be playing that game a little on the liquored up side.. ;)

I feel crappy

so posting isn't a big option right now, but I'll do my best.

Damages not only got renewed, but it got renewed for two more seasons. Course, with the writer's strike, you still have plenty of time to catch up!

Not only are the writers striking, but so are Broadway stagehands. I'm pretty glad I never got any show tickets like I'd planned!

I'm not even discussing the Colts game last night or the fact that I (so far) am 2/14 on my football picks AND have dropped two spots. I was doing so well...

Hope you enjoyed your day off, if you had one. I was as busy as busy could be! That's what happens when people think your office is closed. You actually have time to do real work.

My parents and my sister rearranged our house today. I'm a big fan and it was about time.

I know.. this is a shitty post, but really all I want to do is take some Nyquil and go to bed. I might even skip Heroes tonight, if that's any indication of how crappy I'm feeling. I had to get off the phone with blind date boy cause I felt bad I was sniffling in his ear. Update to that: we've traded countless emails and he's a funny guy. Tonight was the first time I actually spoke to him. I don't think he quite "gets" me.. We'll see..

Are you still here?

I called in sick yesterday. There wasn't much to do at work and I was just not having a good week, so I decided to bite the bullet and give myself a stress free day. Is that so bad? I said I had an allergic reaction and that my eye was swollen shut. I feel bad about that, but I'm sure I'll get over it. J and I went to breakfast and then I went to the gym. The rest of the day was spent on pogo playing games (seriously.. it's an addiction.. i think I need rehab) and emailing back and forth with blind date boy (that's what we're going to call him for now.) Honestly.. he seems like a really nice guy. He's funny and I think he thinks I'm funny. How can THAT be bad? He does have a kind of scary tattoo, but they can be covered. He already asked if I wanted to get together, but I'm playing hard to get... Do you think the fact that I told him I was playing hard to get defeat the purpose!?

I finally watched A Beautiful Mind today. Wow... I'm really upset with myself that it took me six years from its release date to watch it. I was just enthralled by it! I thought it was an incredible film with amazing acting. I do not remember who beat Russell Crowe for the Best Actor Oscar, but I just can't fathom it. I mean, his acting was just amazing becuase it wasn't just acting.. it was literally changing his entire personality and mannerisms. There are no other great words I can say to describe it except if you haven't seen it, you have to! It's THAT good. I also watched Bottle Rocket, which I believe was both Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson's first film. It was entertaining and funny. I'm really not a big Owen Wilson fan, but it wasn't a waste of an hour and a half, so that's something.

I was the second person at the gym this morning. I could get used to that. After lifting and bowling last night (where I finally bowled well enough to feel ok about things), I was pretty beat so I pretty much came home and went to bed. That explains why I was up at 7:30 on a Saturday to go to the gym. Seriously, I should do it every weekend because I had my pick of machines and TV programs, which is a rarity. However, I had accomplished basically everything I was going to accomplish that day by 9:00 am and that's kind of disconcerting. I wanted to do something, but I'm pretty broke right now so I watched my Netflix movies and the Law & Order: SVU episodes I DVR'd. Now, here I sit. 8:00 on Saturday night. Alone. Getting ready to watch Rent, because I've exhausted my Netflix resources and no one will watch Rent with me anyway! Really, I'm ok with it... Gotta rest up for the gym and perhaps soccer practice tomorrow. Wish I had more, but I told you it was a boring week. I've been doing this blog for over a year and this might be the worst week ever. That's not so bad!!! Hope you're enjoying your weekend and hopefully next week will be drama infused.. just for you!

Yet another reason why being a New Yorker isn't so bad...

It all makes sense

No wonder that professional softball career didn't work out.

(Note to readers: I don't really believe this.. Just found it interesting. Might I add, I'm an excellent hitter and RARELY strike out... even in the batting cages)

I love nothing more

than a kick ass celebrity mug shot. It's no Nick Nolte, but it's by far the best of the week.

I missed a day

I know... I'm a terrible person but it was probably better than the nothing I was going to spew at you. Truth is, I've gotten sucked into playing online games at POGO and the blog and the cramp in my hand are really the only things that have suffered. Sadly, not my social life!

Yesterday was just a normal day at work. I got out and headed to the gym. I slacked on my cardio a little, but I did do a solid hour. I then went home and cooked myself some dinner. Oh yes.. REALLY cooked it. It's a cheesy pasta dish I've talked about before from Aimee's Adventures. It was pretty good and since I'm cooking for one, I had LOTS of leftovers, a portion of which I had for lunch today. I did watch ANTM and I was pretty peeved that Sarah got booted! I really liked her and I think it sucks that they booted her because she was too skinny to be plus size and too big to be a model. I just don't think she deserved it. When the episode started I was POSITIVE Chantal would go home because she kept saying how she thought she did such a good job and was so confident, which is usually the kiss of death on ANTM. So... 7 girls remain.. Private Practice was NOT on last night thanks to the CMA Awards, so I played games and listened to Criminal Minds. That show is pretty twisted and I enjoy it! As for other TV news, Jane Seymour got voted off DWTS and Marie Osmond WILL return to the show in the wake of her father's death.

J called last night and he's coming home today. I actually just spoke to him and he was telling me how he was so lost cause he got turned around for a detour. I asked the silliest question: "Why don't you stop and ask someone how to get to 95?" I forgot I was talking to a man, and a stubborn one at that. He just called to let me know he made it to the Delaware Memorial Bridge without asking for directions and is back on course. I was telling my friend Eryn about the situation and she emailed me back with this one word: Canada. I'll explain: the first time I ever went to Eryn's house, I took the wrong turn on the highway and didn't realize I was going the wrong way until I hit the Canadian border. I hadn't showered before I left her house thinking I was just going to be in the car by myself for three hours, so I'd just do it when I got home. BIG mistake. I was in the car for probably 7 hours, exhausted and mortified that I'd done something so stupid without realizing it. Then again, I can't tell my left from my right without making an "L" with my left hand, so why I thought I'd know the difference between East and West is totally beyond me. So, the point of her email was "pot, meet kettle."

In other news, my friend Amy is trying to hook me up. Perhaps it was my "what a good girlfriend I'd be" blog rant, or maybe she just wants me to get laid (by someone other than J of course), but she has put the wheels in motion. I think her text to me earlier this week went like this: "There's this dude I work with. he's cute...funny, shaved head. you might like him." Apparently I have a type.. lol.. So anyway, she talked to him about it and he was down, so she gave him my email address. I'm nervous... I think it's good that we're going to chat first and get to know each other, but you still want to be attracted to the person. I mean, maybe mine and Amy's ideas of cute are not the same!! (Ok.. granted, she dates girls so it could be a TAD skewed, but I think she still understands the male aesthetic! lol) Anyway, she told me his name (he shall remain nameless, friends) and then told me he bowled in high school. Ok... this guy has a shaved head, a goatee AND bowled in high school!? He's so my type.. lol.. I then had to ask: "so, does he have dead bodies in his basement or play dungeons and dragons every night? Cause there HAS to be something wrong with him!" We'll see what happens. I appreciate the effort at the very least and am just happy I'm not considered a lost cause! I'm curious as to what J's reaction would be if I had a real date...

That's really all that's been going on with me. We don't start soccer till next week because we decided to drop down a level. There were only five teams at Level A and 12 at Level B. We thought it'd be more fun and beneficial for us to play more teams, so we dropped down. However, we didn't do it in time so we weren't able to play a game this week. They are going to compensate by giving us a doubleheader one night. THAT should be interesting. The games are later than last session too, as a mens league takes over the fields at 7:30. Our earliest games look to be at 8:25 and the latest (so far) at 10:25. Those are going to be some TOUGH weeks, but I think we'll be fine once we get there. At least we can all still get our shit done before we go.

A representative from a church school in Troy stopped by and asked if my co-worker and I wanted to buy some baked goods. THEY WERE FOR A GOOD CAUSE!!!!! How could I resist? She bought cookies and I bought brownies. We're taking bets on how long it will be before they're gone. I'm going to finish up my day and have dinner with my dad before J gets here (my mom and sister are both gone, so I think dad feels like he needs to take care of me... or maybe he's just bored and lonely! lol.. What can I say? I'm not turning down a free dinner!!). Enjoy your night and TGIF... we're almost there..

Ok, I lied

Did you really think I could go a day and post a whole lot of nothing?!

A very Happy 2nd Birthday goes out to Brady Propst, son of my friends Tara and Tim. He's the most adorable boy I know, just don't tell my other friends who have kids..

I'm pretty sure Dancing with the Stars is cursed, at least for the older women. I mean, Marie Osmond faints on national TV, Jane Seymour's mother dies, she gets food poisoning and is affected by the California wildfires, and now Marie Osmond's father has died. So, for the second week in a row, someone will not be at the results show. Honestly, I think she probably deserves to go home and maybe that's what she needs, but I'd feel bad if she did. We shall only have to wait a short while longer to see who gets the boot. As evidenced by last week's ousting, anything can happen!

To quote Miranda Priestly "That's all."

I got nothing

No really, it's true. I have nothing of substance to say, I couldn't really find any good news on the web and there's no drama in my life. Sit tight kids, it's only Tuesday.

Good Intentions

that's what I had for tonight and I got nowhere. I went to the gym and I thought "hey, I really want to see Gone, Baby Gone, so maybe I'll go tonight." Then my sister ridiculed me for going to the movies by myself. Then I thought "well, maybe I'll use this time to watch "A Beautiful Mind" instead." Well, instead I came home, popped it into the DVD player and there it sits. Now Dancing with the Stars is coming on so there goes my night. Oh well, it's the thought that counts, right? Anyway, let me get you up to speed as best I can.

Thursday night was J's birthday dinner. We had a great meal at the Olive Garden and then found we had time to kill, so he asked if I wanted to go to his sister's. Honestly, I did want to see his niece, so I said yes. Good god, that kid got big! She's so adorable and I held her for a while to give mom and dad a break. They were probably relieved when I left. They make it look so effortless and I looked like.. well.. a kid holding a baby. We stayed there till about 9:00 and then went out for a few drinks. It was a good time had by all, at least that's what he told me. And oh yeah.. he enjoyed his toothbrush too.. hee hee. The next morning we went to IHOP for breakfast and I had to be on my way to help Tre pick out a dress for the wedding. We hit the mall with Danny in tow, and found four dresses immediately, two of which were GREAT! Honestly, she probably should have bought them both, but Danny and I convinced her to buy the one she got, as it was just a bit different (meaning NOT BLACK), and since she was trying to get a date (which she did) it was a great boobie dress!! After that everyone had to get cards and I couldn't resist a Yankee Candle coupon I'd received in the mail the day before. Funny that Tre picked out the scents, yet I paid for them. I need to work on that. Anyway, while I was at Hallmark, I saw the soundtrack to A Charlie Brown Christmas, which J's sister had been talking about the previous night. So, I picked it up for him to give to her for Christmas. Seriously, I'm a great NON girlfriend, imagine what a great girlfriend I'd be!!!! Someone work on that!!!!

The wedding was an absolute blast! I stayed out way later than normal and danced the night away! We spent A LOT of time on the dance floor. The DJ was pretty good and while he played too many slow songs for someone who A) didn't have a date and B) did not see ONE single man at the wedding, he was still good. I'm not sure all the older folks knew what "bringing sexy back" meant, but we tried real hard to show them! I drank amaretto and diet coke through the reception and didn't really feel too drunk.. until I started drinking beer, which I drank from about 11:30 to 3:30, when we shut down the bar next to our hotel. I'm pretty impressed to say I was one of the last ones standing, which is very unlike me. I talked to J just before I went to bed and he woke me up at 6:30 when he was on his way home.. Yeah.. I can't last THAT long! Tre, Danny and I hit a local diner on the way home on Saturday and I spent the day on my couch watching what I'd DVR'd through the week. I TRIED to take a nap, but it didn't really happen. When Tre came home, I persuaded her to watch Fracture with me, which was a really great movie. Somehow we both stayed awake long enough to watch it, but not much after that.

I was supposed to go midnight bowling with my friend Sarah for her husband's birthday, but I crashed out on the couch instead. It would have been pretty funny if I'd made it that night, as the knocker upper and his ex/new girlfriend were there with her daughter (who in my opinion was up WAY past her bedtime). It would have been hysterical to see how awkward he would have felt! I didn't bowl on Friday night because of the wedding and not only did my team bowl right next to his, but his aforementioned ex showed up that night. I think she knows about me, so I'm sure she would have died knowing I was right there. He told me he might "settle" with her, which I find so sad. I mean, I want to spend the rest of my life with someone too, but I'm not willing to settle. Hell, if I did that, I'd be with him! lol.. It just makes me sad that some people would rather settle to "do the right thing" rather than be patient and hopefully find true happiness. Yes, I know. I should take my own advice, but patience is a virtue I REALLY don't possess!

Sunday I went to the gym and the grocery store, so I could make yet another batch of macaroni and cheese to bring to my friend's house, as she was hosting football later on that day. My sister and I met our friend Caren at Lagonia's in Philmont for lunch. I had never been there before and had a great wrap. Course, the company was even better. Caren, Tre and I went to high school together and I honestly can't remember the last time we saw her. She was probably Tre's best friend through high school and she and I danced together and were always in the plays in high school. It was so great to see her and spend some quality time with her. She's not in town very often, but hopefully we can get her to visit a little more now that we've all reconnected. Not that I thought she wouldn't be, but she really is the same old girl she used to be, and it was really great to sit and chat like no time at all had passed. I think we'll need another lunch though. It's been a long time and we still have lots to catch up on! We stayed at lunch longer than expected, but got to Fish's house in time for the Colts-Patriots game. I was pretty disappointed that the Colts couldn't keep it together for the win, but at least they beat the spread. I did REALLY well on my football picks, but unfortunately, not as good as J did. He has missed only two out of 13 games. And to think, I was going to just use his picks this week and not compete against him. Damnit.. So I had talked to J around 7:30 and he let me know he was on his way to Virginia. He called again at 10:00, telling me his destination was about 45 minutes from DC, and he called me from Baltimore (funny that people do that, isn't it?). So, I was expecting his phone call no later than midnight to say he'd made it there. Well, when I know someone is going to call me, I can't get really great sleep. I'm in and out, just waiting for the phone to ring. I woke up at 12:44, then again at 2:15 (and I'm sure many times in between) when I finally texted him to make sure everything was ok. He called back immediately, saying his buddy had called and he missed his exit (he's not a multi tasker) so he had to loop back around DC and was about 2o minutes away from where he needed to be. He did call me back around 2:55 to say that yes, he FINALLY got there. So yeah.. I didn't sleep too well last night.

I came into my office this morning, and it was rearranged. My desk is facing out the window which is nice and all, but that means my back is to everyone in the office and I don't like everyone being able to see my computer screen when they walk by. It makes me nervous. So, my boss's husband and his secretary are moving in this week and now we're sharing space. I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but now that it's really happening, I'm really nervous about it. My boss, co-worker and I have a system and a rapport and I think it's going to be really strange to have two new people coming in. Plus, I kind of feel bad for his secretary as her office was our file room, so there are no windows. I hope she's not claustrophobic! So like I said this morning, things are just a tad weird at work. But there is finally work to do and that I can't complain about... yet.

I'm beat and have to finish my laundry so I'm going to call it a night. Make sure you vote for the contestants on Dancing with the Stars so another undeserving person doesn't go home this week. Also, get ready, as my favorite guilty pleasure The Real Housewives of Orange County starts a new season on Bravo tomorrow night. Good times...
