Grease at Proctor's

Dear Girl and Mom Sitting Behind Me:

SHUT UP :)

Seriously.. EVERYONE knows every single song from Grease. It's been around for over 30 years and then some. MILLIONS of actors have played the roles on screen and on and off Broadway. Regardless, no one paid money to hear you sing, so how about you open up a big can of "shut the fuck up" and let the pros do their job?" Thanks.. you're a doll.

Kara

As for my half-assed review, the show was pretty good! The Vince Fontaine warm up was pretty funny, especially when he asked where people were from and someone shouted out Climax, which led into a joke throughout his opening AND showed up in the show (Yes, those not from this area, Climax is a real city in Greene County and my friends giggled like fiends when we drove through it on our way to a wedding). If it WAS staged, you'd never know it, cause this guy looked genuinely surprised by it. The show had not one, but two American Idol alums in the midst. Ace Young played Danny and while his accent left little to be desired, his acting chops, dancing ability and vocals were definitely good enough. He still looks pretty damn good too, even with those ridiculous pompadours!

The show was advertised heavily as "starring Taylor Hicks," but he only played Teen Angel, surfacing for one number, which he performed just fine. Like Ace, the vocals were strong... thank God. The dancing, was another story! As anyone that watched Idol knows, Hicks was basically told NOT to dance, his movements being a bit... herky-jerky, for lack of a better term. He proved that again last night. He was certainly entertaining, just a bit too campy and over the top for my taste. Maybe it's cause I'm a Daughtry fan, I don't know! During his "Beauty School Dropout" number (where he descended from the sky, of course), Frenchie was all up in his business and at one point, looked him in the eye and said "I voted for you." I have no idea how she or he kept a straight face, but the audience loved it. Anyway, the audience stuck around after the show to hear him sing a song from his new CD, which was quite good! It was more of the soul based stuff we're used to hearing from him, and he was already out signing autographs when we got out of the theater.

All in all, great job by the actors! One in particular (Rump!?) had an amazing voice! He was a touch chubby and I have to say, I just didn't expect such a voice to fall out of his mouth considering I thought he was simply there for comic relief. I stand corrected. I adore Proctor's, and now I'm just going to wallow in the fact that Spring Awakening is coming the ONLY week I've gone away in like.. years.. Bitter.. party of one!

History was made this weekend in the world of professional bowling, and because of that, I won't even hold it against Kelly Kulick that she's from New Jersey.. I'll just continue to be proud and say to all the boys "told ya so..."

After a not so wonderful first half, the Indianapolis Colts stepped it up, and now my boy Peyton is headed to the Superbowl once again (along with the rest of the Colts of course). They'll be facing the New Orleans Saints, who beat Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings in overtime. I think it'll be a great game and while I want the Colts to win, if they DO get beat, I'd rather it was by the Saints as opposed to old, indecisive Brett Favre.

We hit the PBR (professional bull riding) event on Saturday night at the TU Center, and it was both entertaining and smelly. Thankfully, we were sitting up in one of the suites so the smell was only an issue when we decided we needed a closer look. We got over that real quick.. We then cut many, many rugs at the Dublin Underground, and had many, many drinks. And pizza.. pizza with cold cheese is almost always the right way to end a night of drinking!

Jersey Shore may be over, but the comparisons will never die!

The Screen Actor's Guild Awards were held on Saturday night, and the main award winners were pretty similar to the winners at the Golden Globes, leading us to believe the Oscars will follow suit. That would make for a pretty boring show though, don't you think?

I admit, I'm a little conflicted on this....

But not so much on this...

Yes.. I got my Daughtry tickets... The world is as it should be..

For the most part, I leave my phone on vibrate, unless I'm expecting a call in the middle of the night or something, which happens way less since I stopped dating a drunken child. Anyway, for some reason, I left the ringer on last night with the thought "who's gonna call me overnight on a Wednesday?" Famous last words, right? Anyway, my texting tone goes off at 5 am and I'm pretty surprised, so I check it. It's Jason, telling me he just drove by Meadowgreens on his way to work, and it's going up in flames! It certainly wasn't the text I was expecting, considering I wasn't expecting to get a text at 5 am in the first place! So yes, Meadowgreens is now burnt rubble and no one quite knows why. Obviously, rumors are flying, but I'm going to reserve judgment until I hear from the cause and origin team. As usual, everyone is saying "arson for insurance" but I admit, I have a really hard time believing it's anything more than an accident. I sure do hope they manage to rebuild eventually, as it's been a fun place to be and I have no idea where I'll go from now on. Thank GOD football season is just about over. Thankfully, no one was in the building at the time, and hopefully things will work themselves out. Regardless, not the way I wanted to wake up this morning!

Tonight is the last episode of Jersey Shore and in honor of that, let me direct you to THIS article. Who knew lots of fake boob cleavage could be both sophisticated AND sexy? Apparently I didn't get the memo on that one! Regardless, I'll be tuning in to see the rest of the train wreck just like TONS of other people I know... The reunion that follows should be entertaining as well!

After a day of football watching and beer drinking, I managed to get home in time to catch the Golden Globes. I have to admit, I didn't do so well predicting the winners, but I was THRILLED that Glee made a splash and won the award for Best Comedy, Musical. It was kind of nice for there not to be a sweep by 30 Rock for the millionth time! I missed the red carpet (I taped it, I swear) but someone PLEASE tell me this is just some clever photoshopping!

Speaking of TV, how did I not hear until this week that my favorite baldy (ok.. second favorite), Billy Zane, has a new show! Granted, it's definitely not on at a convenient time for me (Thursdays at 8) but I'm taping it anyway.

I don't know if anyone is watching High School Reunion on TV Land but me and Sandra, but I think we're both enjoying it, for the most part. What I'm NOT enjoying, is the biggest d-bag I've ever seen on TV, John. He's an idiot, ignorant and many other words I prefer not to use in public. Sandra thinks he'll reform and I think if he does, High School Reunion will be a miracle worker. Check it out - Wednesdays at 10 on TV Land.

Week Three of Co-Ed Soccer.. We show up for our 9:55 game and the other team is nowhere to be found. They finally show up... with one girl. You have to have at least two on the field at all times, so they proceed to ask us if any of our girls would play with them. Um.. NO! We don't drive 45 minutes to play against each other and we have ample girls so we don't have to play the entire game, cause we're all old and out of shape. We agree that they can play with only one girl, just because we still want to play. Midway through the first half, a miracle happened. I scored a goal. My first one ever, and it was LEGIT! I think everyone was in shock and awe, and I'm sure the other team really enjoyed the insane happy dance I did, not quite understanding the magnitude of what had just happened. At least now I've done the unthinkable and no one can crack on me anymore. Anyway, the team we played against were actually a fun, nice team, minus one guy. I think he was peeved that we didn't give him any girls, and he proceeded to knock Nikki on her ass, with nary an apology. He crossed the line completely though, when he blasted the ball right into Allyson's head. Thankfully, Allyson was able to get her hands up, so he only broke her wrist as opposed to her nose. Let's just say, he got an earful and I would love for him to know what he did, as it wasn't official then. So, we lost the game AND we lost Allyson, which really sucks! Still, believe it or not, we're having a great time and I'd love to apologize to Afrim's for being whiny bitches... but come on. The guy was like.. five feet away from her and was up 5-1. It was completely unnecessary.

If you've got nothing better to do next week, maybe you should try out for Jeopardy!!!

Gonna be a real busy weekend.. Heading to the TU Center for Professional Bull Riding, then out to Savannah's (The Dublin Underground) for lots of dancing!!! I'm really looking forward to it so Friday better go by quick or it has me to answer to! THEN... The Colts play the Jets on Sunday afternoon and I hope to be somewhere (maybe my own home to avoid annoying Jets fans) watching the Colts win! Enjoy the weekend!!!

I think I've made it abundantly clear that I don't watch American Idol, especially in the early stages where it's basically a train wreck freak fest. Regardless, every morning show I listened to on my way to work (oh God, PLEASE let it get warm enough for me to install the satellite cord I need on my radio antenna so I can stop listening to local radio) talked about it, and therefore, played a clip of "Pants on the Ground." It's stuck in my head. Get it out.

I have to say, I gave up on Parks and Recreation after last season so of course, it's getting good! I'm sure I can catch up. Anyway, whether you watch or not, this video is still pretty funny, and an entertaining way to speed up your day.

A new season of High School Reunion starts tonight on TV Land, and you can bet I'll be DVRing it! I LOVED the trainwreck that was last season, and with the self proclaimed "summer girls" bitching it up, there's no WAY it can be bad!!

Soon enough you're going to be able to watch Netflix movies through your Wii!

Last week was our first week of co-ed soccer. Apparently, I was a little confused as to our skill level. There are levels 1-5 and since we've been playing for a while, I figured level 3 would be fine, as that would be considered middle of the road. The girl at Afrim's didn't correct me on this, so we went in all bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready to begin! Our first clue was that we saw two girls from our Mom's league who DEFINITELY play at a higher level than us, and are quite a bit younger. The rest of the team looked athletic enough, but we thought we'd be able to hold our own. First mistake? Thinking. A goal was scored in 24ish seconds by the other team. This guy whizzed the ball right past me like nothing I'd ever seen and if it had hit me, I think I'd still be picking my teeth out of the turf. It was then I vowed to not get in the way. Let them have their goal. Anyway, they quickly exert their dominance over us and we looked like idiots! We were completely lost on the field and no one could help us. Literally, they had to be up 15-0 at the half and we were all discouraged. We managed to score ONE goal as the second half started and even held them to 0 for quite a while, but then we got tired, and they took advantage, which I find kind of unsportsman like. I mean, the guy who scored the first goal (and probably at least 10 in the entire game) was sitting down by our goal, just cherry picking and waiting for the ball to come. I looked at him and said "you're up 20-1, is that really necessary?" I then proceeded to call him an f'in douchebag, cause that's what he is. I mean, OBVIOUSLY we're overmatched and are doing the best we can. The least you can do is be a pal about it! I give him credit, he DID stop doing it for a while, but told one of the guys on his team "he got yelled at." No, I didn't YELL at you, I just gave you a reality check. So NOT the same thing. Anyway, game ends, we lose a billion to 1, but we all agreed that it was way better than the Mom's league and definitely more of a work out. One of the workers (we call him Afrim, but I don't think he is) was out in the reception area and was like "yeah, you guys don't belong in level 3." Um.. yeah.. we know. I could have used that information YESTERDAY!! Anyway, he says that we can drop down to level 5 and that will be more our speed. So, last night we played in Level 5 and he was right. DEFINITELY where we should be. We actually won our game 2-1, and I feel like we played a lot better. We still need some time to gel as a team, especially considering one of our guys has never played soccer before. It's a really great time though, and I think we'll do another session after this and see what happens. Only unfortunate part is that our games are pretty late. Last night it was 10:00, so by the time you get home and wind down, it's 1:00. Needless to say, I have a feeling I'm going to need a little nap this afternoon!

So that's what's been going on in this neck of the woods. Hope everyone humps their way through Wednesday (only if they're yours and only safely!) cause there's only two more days till the weekend and lots of football!! Let's go Colts!

Well said Conan... Well said..

Redemption comes for the Snookster...

Apparently, Simon Cowell is leaving American Idol, which premieres tonight with WEEKS of endless delusion people who think they can sing. If I still cared (which I stopped doing after Chris Daughtry's ouster), it'd be a big story... just saying.

In other Idol news, Mom wants to go see Grease at Proctor's... with Taylor Hicks as Teen Angel. Sign me up!

Wait a minute.. Mark McGwire... steroids!? NOOOOOOO!!! (In case anyone was wondering, that was sarcasm). Did he really need to make an announcement to tell everyone what we've known for years? I mean, it's not our fault he was the last one to the party, am I right? But hey, whatever helps you sleep at night, I guess. Good luck on that new job.. hitting coach, right? Interesting... We can forgive, but the Hall of Fame never forgets...

Chris sent me the link to this blog, and I've been laughing my ass off ever since. It's shit like this that can't be made up. Does she take poetic license? It doesn't seem so!

I just started following a bunch of people on Twitter, one of whom is Major League Baseball. I'm thankful, as it led me to Keith Olbermann's baseball blog! I've been a huge fan of his since "The Big Show" days and I feel like we'd be a match made in heaven. For now, this will have to do.

Ya know how you have those days where you just KNOW you shouldn't have gotten out of bed? I'm having one of those weeks, so TGIF tomorrow!!!

It seems that everything I've ever done wrong at work in the last year or so has come back to haunt me in the last two days. Let me point out that it's one or two things, but the timing of them both coming up couldn't be more off!

Yesterday morning I managed to rear end a guy on Washington Avenue Extension just as I was getting ready to turn into work. Come to find out, the guy works in the building next to me. Thankfully, he didn't freak out when I hit him. As a matter of fact, he hardly reacted at all! He got out of the car and said "I have to call" which meant, the cops. Now, let me point out that he drives a Nissan Altima, while I drive a Toyota Corolla.. His car sits a touch higher than mine, so there seems to be more damage to mine. Actually, I really couldn't see ANY damage on his car! Granted, there was road dust on it so I'm sure there are scratches, but I highly doubt there's much more. Basically, I hope this kid doesn't try to hose me to get his car fixed. No tickets were issued so that was a relief. The cop was super nice and after looking at both of the cars, I think he was wondering why he got a call at all, much like I was. Let's hope it works out for the best cause I'm sure I don't have the time, energy or money to deal with it right now!

First time is not the charm when it comes to Roberto Alomar, and of course, it's being speculated that he didn't make it into the Hall the first time due to his notorious spitting incident. True? Maybe.. but considering he only missed by eight votes, I doubt it. Did he get hosed? Maybe, but he's got plenty of chances left and I highly doubt he won't make it next year. Andre Dawson is the only inductee this year and since I own (and have done so for many, many years) a glove emblazoned with his name, my congratulations go out to him!

Tonight's trailers speculate but apparently, the news is true! Tamra and Simon Barney are getting divorced, and it looks like it's gonna get ugly, with Simon alleging infidelity and verbal abuse. Can't wait to find out who Tamra's banging... If Gretchen doesn't throw it in her face she'll be a FAR better person than I'll ever be!!

Jersey Shore is back tonight, and with that, comes yet another Boardwalk brawl. Apparently all the hullaballoo isn't doing bad things for MTV, as rumor is there'll be a second season of the show with the same cast. However, I'm sure they'll have to throw in some new blood to stir things up, especially since it looks like Vinny could get the boot this week after taking the boss's girl (woman) home from the club. Oh, the Jersey Shore drama!

On a different note, I never got the chance (or had the time) to discuss the So You Think You Can Dance finale. Let me say, I correctly predicted the order in which the final 6 would be ousted, and unfortunately, I was correct in thinking that Russell would beat out my boy Jakob in the end. I get it, but I don't necessarily have to agree with it. I think that, by far, Jakob was the most talented dancer to have been on the show since its inception (again, don't freak, this is just my opinion) but I agree that Russell really exemplified what the show is about. It's America's FAVORITE Dancer, not America's Best Dancer, and as someone who's background is in krumping, Russell really wowed everyone with his ability to take on other forms of dance. However, it still amazes me how "adrenaline" made him forget his earth shattering injury! Congrats go out to him! I think it'll only be a matter of time before Jakob is snatched up by a prominent dance company, and you can bet your sweet bippy I'll find out which one and get tickets to see him. Same goes for the SYTYCD tour... they didn't come around here last year and I'm doubtful they will again this year, but I'd certainly be there if they do!

Speaking of things I'm getting tickets for, I have a girl's night out planned for this event. How can you go wrong with beer and sweaty boys? I don't think you can!

I've been fighting off illness since I got back from Buffalo (started with a Demi Moore voice and has since moved into my nose) so I'm gonna take some Nyquil and call it a night. Enjoy your weekend!

This is so not the way I wanted to start my day...

Monday, January 04, 2010

I got to see Peyton Manning in person :) You do not know cold until you go to a football game.. in Buffalo.. in January... PURPOSEFULLY
In all honesty, it was a really cool experience, but I will be sure to have my next NFL experience either be pre-season, or in a much more tropical locale, guaranteed!!!

Much like last year, this year was a definite success! We had an awesome time ringing in the new year and I only had to take a 2 and a half hour nap this afternoon! I'll try to take some more pictures this weekend to keep you up to date. Hope everyone enjoyed their New Year's festivities! I'm gonna wind down by packing for the weekend and continue to mold a hole in the couch with my ass thanks to yet another Criminal Minds Marathon. Thank you A & E!!
