Don't get used to it

but I'm holding a baby. Also, congratulations finally go out to my friend Tara, who gave birth to Evan Paul Propst on Sunday morning. He weighed in at 9lbs, 4 oz and thank GOD, this time Tara had time to have drugs.

There's nothing left for me to do but DANCE!

I skipped dance class last night, but it still ended up being a night chock full of it. Go figure.

So You Think You Can Dance opened its season on Fox with their New York City auditions. I admit, I didn’t get into this show until the end last year, mainly because I’d invested so much time in American Idol that I just couldn’t commit to something that big. However, I was home and I had seen everything else on, so I decided to tune in. I even managed to suck my sister and Danny in, which is a feat in itself. I can tell I’m going to be totally into it, so now at least I have something to blog about. There was this one girl named Hannah-Lee. She was very talented and made it to the round in Las Vegas. The thing about her was that she was involved in this tragic accident in Israel in 2001, when a dance floor in a banquet hall fell three stories with people dancing on top of it. I remember seeing the footage years ago, but it was still just as crazy seeing it again. No one knew if she would live or be able to dance again, yet here she is. I admit, I liked her, along with a dance teacher and her student who got through to the next round. My big peeve with these shows is why people waste their time and their dignity auditioning when it’s blatantly obvious they have no talent. Judge Nigel Lythgoe literally got into a fight with this one guy’s mother, when he basically told him he would never have a dancing career. This guy is 33 years old and his self proclaimed nickname is "Sex." Considering he looks more like Weird Al than Brad Pitt, I’d be shocked if he was actually getting some. Anyway, he auditioned for the second year in a row and Nigel told him never to come back. You almost feel bad because the judges can be really mean, but when you think about it, a reality check is exactly what these people need! Anyway, there were quite a few good dancers, and quite a few who thought they were good, only to be told otherwise. I can’t wait till the next episode!

After that, I was flipping through the channels and found the movie "Take the Lead" was playing on HBO. This is the one where Antonio Banderas teaches inner city kids how to ballroom dance. I had missed the first half hour, but I sat down and watched the rest of it and it was a pretty good movie. I’ve had it on my Netflix for quite some time, and now I can take it off. If I know HBO I won’t have any trouble catching the first half hour in the near future. I had forgotten that YaYa DaCosta from America’s Next Top Model was in the movie. She had a pretty decent attitude on the show so I’m not sure if she was really acting or what, but she did a decent job. It was a good time waster, even though it forced me to stay up and watch it to the end, headache and all.

Hope everyone enjoys the time off on their holiday weekend. Have a great one and I’ll catch ya soon!

There's a line you have to draw

and this man is severely crossing it. I mean, yes, it sucks that your son died, but take some freaking responsibility instead of trying to sue everyone and their mother. I seriously can't believe this case is even close to valid.

Almost the end of the week

I love Reno 911, as I have always been a fan of the MTV sketch comedy troupe, “The State.” Which reminds me: my ex still has my best of The State VHS tape. I really should get that back from him… or just buy it on DVD. Regardless, this was great news to hear, be it true or not!

The Real World turned 15 years old this week. That means I’ve been watching the Real World for half my life. Well, not purposefully. I’ve skipped the last few seasons as neither the people or locations intrigued me. Plus, it’s gotten to the point where they’re all just a bunch of horny college kids with no goals but to do challenges their whole life and I really can’t deal with the fact that their “job” is not having one. I mean… get a life! Still, I’d like to wish The Real World a very happy birthday and think back of a time when “Why do you have a beeper? Are you a drug dealer?” was the most controversy MTV could come up with. Ah, the good old days.

Jordin Sparks has been named the new American Idol. I don’t have much else to say since I didn’t watch the show, but she’s a very talented girl and she was one of my picks to go all the way since the beginning, even though I did enjoy Blake Lewis. Let’s hope none of them pull a Taylor Hicks..
Speaking of reality shows, I watched the first part of America’s Next Top Model finale last night and WOW, did Renee get hosed or what!? She had the best picture and the best commercial but she gets booted for looking old!? The girl is 20 for god’s sake. If that’s how the judges felt, they really should have booted her off weeks ago. I didn’t see anyone complaining about how old she looks in that sexy “mens mag” photo shoot, did you? Crap.. it’s all crap!

If anyone watches the guilty pleasure “The Hills” you’ll be mortified to hear that Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt have gotten engaged. He is the skeeviest guy I’ve ever seen and Heidi must not watch the show she’s on because if she did, she would know this and would never commit to marrying such a dillhole. Plus, she’s only 20 years old and just got herself a new pair of knockers. Girlfriend should give them a test drive before she commits. Then again, Spencer probably paid for them (although lord knows how).

To wrap up the day, it appears Charles Manson has been denied parole for the 11th time since 1978. Do I really need to say more? I’ll be honest, I didn’t even know that he was still alive. Speaking of people in prison (or people that should be) have you heard that Amy Fisher and Joey Buttafuco are romantically entwined again? Apparently they are both going through divorces and are finding solace in the arms of each other. All together now.. EEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWW! I know prison has hardened her and such, but she can definitely do better. I wonder what Mary Jo thinks of this!

Enjoy your Thursday night. I’m going to try to see Lynn’s baby so perhaps I can post some pictures later on. Regardless, have a great night, and if you have tomorrow off along with Monday, you suck!

Kara, why were you late for work this morning?

Well.. I was watching Blue Chips on HBO (for about the millionth time) and it was imperative that I find out if Western University beats Bobby Knight (they did).

Ok, that didn't really happen (the lateness, I mean) but I did find myself taken away from my usual 7 am Buffy watching to waste time watching Blue Chips. Shaq should have stuck to basketball movies. KAZAAM!

I'm an idiot sometimes...

Case in point: I went into my softball bag last night and was elated to find $15.00. I NEVER forget where I left money so I was shocked and excited to find it in my bag. I mean, isn’t it the greatest feeling to find money? Now that I had that money, I took the singles I had and took them to the game with me, leaving me with $18.00 after buying a pack of gum. PLENTY of money for my game, considering if we win, the other team buys us a few pitchers. Anyway, we won our game and one of the guys on my team asks me about paying the umpire. Yep, the $15.00 was money my cousin had given me to pay the umpire. I did relinquish the cash to him, then wondered how I was going to go out on $3.00, as the team decided not to go to the home team's bar where there would be free food and beer, but to our home bar which is a tad closer to home for most of us. Luckily, my friend Eddie was accommodating when I told him the situation and not only did he buy me a beer, but he bought a pitcher that he insisted I drink from. Another friend of mine got wings and couldn’t eat them all so I had a few of those too. Sometimes it’s good to be a girl. A guy could never get away with that without looking like a big douchebag. Perhaps I did look like a douchebag, but an accidental douchebag!

YAY!

Apolo Anton Ohno and Julianne Hough were crowned the winners of Dancing with the Stars last night. Joey Fatone and Kym Johnson came in second with Laila Ali and Maksim Cherm.. ok.. svky.. Yeah.. I could look it up, but I'm not.. Laila and Maks came in third. Anyway, all the couples danced really well but Apolo and Julianne were just phenomenal through the show. Even their worst was better than most of the other couples. It was such a well deserved win and they were elated. I swear, if that tour comes around here, I'm going! Congratulations to them!

The end of the road

Uh oh.. did I make you think I was giving up the blog? Not the case... I shall soldier on!

Dancing with the Stars gave us some pretty good final dances last night, although I found a few to be kind of boring (no, I won’t name names.. ). I was SHOCKED that the judges liked Apolo and Julianne’s free style so much. I liked it, but I thought it wouldn’t be rigid and ballroom enough for their tastes. I really enjoyed Joey and Kym’s freestyle, but not so much on Laila and Max. Loved their paso doble though. It was WAY better than the first time. I have no idea who’s going to win. It really could go either way, especially since they have a final dance tonight that will count in the judging. Personally, I’m rooting for Apolo and Julianne, but I wouldn’t mind Laila bringing it home for all the women! The crowning begins at 8:00 tonight.

Heroes served up a pretty interesting finale, with many characters fates hanging in the balance. Nathan decided to fly Peter up to the sky so he wouldn’t hurt anyone with his explosion. So… they’re dead, right? Who knows? I can’t see the show continuing without at least one Petrelli brother. There has to be a way. I mean… Peter can still regenerate a bit, can’t he? Sylar LOOKED to be dead, but at the end of the episode you saw his bloody carcass haul itself into a manhole. Evil never dies THAT easily, we all know that! Parkman took a couple shots and is on death’s door, but I have a feeling he’ll be back too. Also, I’m not usually a fan of foreign men (minus the accents of course) but I’ll be damned if Mohinder Suresh isn’t looking foxier every episode! What’s up with that? The first season of Heroes comes out on August 28th and my birthday is August 15th? Coincidence? Nope… evidence that a late birthday present is in order. Feel free to pre-order. I’ll wait..

Almost all of my shows will be over this week. Thank god I’m lacking in blog time as it is, as now there’s way less to blog about! I’m still trying to keep it up as best as I can so please bear with me. Shit.. I lied.. Rescue Me starts June 13th.. Well, at least my DVR won’t feel neglected!

Right Field Rules!

I totally forgot the O's were playing in the Hall of Fame game in Cooperstown yesterday. I'm so pissed at myself! My dad and I got tickets a few years ago and had a blast in the right field stands so I would have loved to have gone and seen the O's play! They beat the Toronto Blue Jays 13-7 with a grand slam by minor leaguer Brian Bock, who started the game catching. He was also named the game's MVP. The O's didn't fare quite as well in the Home Run Derby but such is life. They begin a homestand against the Toronto Blue Jays tonight, coming off two wins against their beltway rivals, the Washington Nationals.

And yes... I did it. I sucked it up and joined Myspace. I'm not sure if I'm excited or mortified. Either way, peer pressure is a BITCH!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DANNY!!!!

Congratulations

go out to my friend Lynn and her husband Michael, who welcomed Michael Thomas Clark into the world last night at 11:53 pm. He weighed in at 8 lbs, 11 oz and is 21 inches long. Lynn's water broke on Sunday morning, so you can imagine the relief that she FINALLY had the baby!

Congratulations also go out to J.'s sister and her husband, who welcomed a baby girl, Serinda Cassidy on Friday night. She weighed in at 7 lbs, 15 oz. Now if only Tara would pop her baby out this week (as I'm sure she's hoping) I'll be in the midst of a baby trifecta!

Reality TV Roundup

My cousin danced to a song called "Talent Roundup" one year. I really loved the song and they made motions like they had a lasso and everything. It was ridiculously adorable at the time. Some of the following people I discuss would probably not have been asked to join the talent roundup... Even if they BYO Lasso

I’m disappointed. I’m not going to lie. I really thought Renee was a shoe-in to win ANTM, but apparently she photographs old and didn’t make it into the top two. Let’s not even mention the fact that she can, oh, I don’t know SPEAK ENGLISH, which is way more than the others. However, at least Jaslene won. I really did like her personality and her pictures were always pretty good. I just didn’t want Natasha to win. I don’t have a good reason why, I just didn’t.

Ian Ziering got voted off Dancing with the Stars this week. Was it deserved? Probably not, because everyone danced really well, but someone had to go and it was time. The final three are Laila Ali, Apolo Anton Ohno and Joey Fatone. I’m going with Apolo for the win but I couldn’t care less either way. All three of them are phenomenal!

Not that I’m watching, but Melinda Doolittle was axed from American Idol. Honestly, she was probably the most talented of the final three, but lookswise… not so much. It’s sad, but true. I did predict that Blake Lewis and Jordin Sparks would be in the finals and I liked them from the get-go so if I didn’t have a game, I’d probably watch. Eliot Yamin performed his new song last night and besides the shaggy hair, it was great!

My friend Kim (we went to paralegal school together) is up my ass about getting a MySpace account. I’ve always been completely against it because well.. I’m 30! But it seems like all my freaking friends are on it and they can’t believe I’m not. Considering that it might be less time consuming than the blog (as you can see, my blog has suffered from my job change) I’m actually considering it. If anyone has an account or anything, let me know what you think of it.

I’m trying to get a lot done in very little time on this blog, so bear with me. I need to start putting my desk together. Yep, that’s my afternoon! Ha ha. Then it’s a trip to the gym, running some errands and taking J. out to dinner. I kind of got an extra paycheck so I had told him I’d take him somewhere that isn’t the Plaza Diner. We go there A LOT! It’s cheap, quick and close to my house. Plus, you can get breakfast any time. I LOVE breakfast! Anyway, last night we went to see The Invisible. It actually was kind of an interesting flick. Granted, there were plenty of other movies I would have rather seen, but I didn’t hate it or anything. It was entertaining and we were the only two people in the theater. You knew what was going to happen, but you didn’t really know how and that’s what made it fun to watch.

What else? David Faustino (AKA Bud Bundy) got busted for pot possession (throw in obligatory “bud” joke here) and his mug shot isn’t really the train wreck you’d come to expect from child stars. Paris Hilton will now serve half her original sentence in jail, or so they say. Kate Walsh from Grey’s Anatomy is engaged to an exec at 20th Century Fox (I think) and her show got picked up for ABC’s fall lineup. It’ll be titled Private Practice, though I’m not sure when it will air. In sad news, Veronica Mars was finally cancelled by the CW. I never seemed to be able to watch it, but when I did it was a witty, entertaining show. I guess I’ll have to get it on DVD or something and see what all the fuss was about.

I hope to blog again tomorrow, but I make no promises. So, be sure to watch the season finale of The Office tonight, because if last week’s episode was any indication, it’s going to be a doozy. It’s been reported that Jenna Fischer (Pam) broke her back falling down a flight of marble stairs at the Television Upfront presentations, but she will not miss any work on the show. She’s recovering at home as we speak. Anyway, watch the show and then pine away for it all summer, or catch up on DVD. Have a great night and if I don’t talk to you, enjoy your weekend!

I almost forgot

Happy Birthday Shell... don't worry.. you're not 40 yet!!!

Heroes

I'll say more once I'm done watching, but Clea Duvall really is kind of a shitty actress. I kinda hope Ted kills her.

I voted twice for Apolo, twice for Joey and once for Laila. It's not that I don't like Ian, I just think the other three are more deserving and that Chery's had enough winning. It was a great show and the judges were pretty giving with the perfect scores, but they were pretty well deserved.

Work is going well.. I don't have a real computer or desk yet, so it's been a little tough to get things done, but i'm still enjoying myself. I actually went to the gym today after work and was still home before I would even get out of work at my old job.

Any good gossip today? Let me think...

Oh SNAP.. HRG just shot Eric Roberts.. God damn I love this show..

Not enough time on my hands

I thought I’d have a lot of time to blog today since I am in the office by myself. Silly me! I’ve been swamped the whole day, but in a good way. Therefore, I’m going to try to quickly give you the goods:

Dionne was booted from America’s Next Top Model. As entertaining as she was, it was definitely her time. Her pictures consisted of the same scowly face every time, and it didn’t seem like she was trying really hard to keep herself there. The girls had to come up with a dance of their life story after watching some aboriginal dances. Renee won the challenge, as she seemed to be the only girl who put real thought into it and whom the audience could hear! She chose Jaslene to share in her prize and they each got pearl jewelry. Dionne, Renee and Jaslene went out to celebrate while Natasha stayed home with a nasty cold. This gave the girls ample opportunities to talk about how weird Natasha seems to be. The fact that she has no pictures of her husband or baby, the shady way she made it to the States and her strange telephone behavior with her husband were all interesting topics of conversation. Anyway, the next day the girls had to learn a dance and base their pictures on that dance at the photo shoot. Once again, Renee shined and Jay had to coach Dionne through the whole thing. Jaslene was as average as usual, while Natasha just didn’t step it up. She was sick, but she looked like she wasn’t even ready for most of the shots she took. The judges noted this photo shoot was worse than the first one she ever did. At the judging, Tyra asked which girl had the most and which had the least potential. All the other girls said Natasha had the least, but when confronted about it, she basically spun it to her advantage, saying that if Gisele Bundchen stood behind her she would say that Gisele has the least potential. I’m telling you, that girl could get an eskimo to buy a sno-cone. She’s THAT good. As expected, the bottom two were Natasha and Dionne, but it was Dionne’s time to go home. As usual, she looked pretty pissed upon hearing the announcement and when Natasha went to hug her, she did nothing. I’m guessing the final two will be Renee and Natasha.. Jaslene has been told she only has one look and as I’ve said before, she’s not spokesmodel material. Renee SHOULD win, as she can form a coherent sentence and has never been in the bottom two, but we’ll have to wait and see. Tyra did pick Natasha as the winner to be a correspondent on her show, so maybe she could care less if her "Cover Girl" knows how to say Cover Girl coherently!

Danna made her final cut on Shear Genius. I have yet to see the entire episode, but the bottom two were her and Anthony, which I’m sure was much to the chagrin of Tabatha. She wants Tyson gone in the worst way and after seeing his foray into the short cut challenge, I think he had a shot of leaving. He flat ironed this guy’s crazy curly hair and he is not the kind of guy I think will spend an hour in front of his mirror flat ironing his hair every day! Anyway, what I did see of the episode is that everyone got a box with their era on it and some accessories they could use on their model. Since Tabatha won the short cut challenge, she got to pick first and went with 80’s punk rock. She then divvied out the rest of the boxes, supposedly taking care of her friends. Apparently, it didn’t work out so well with Anthony.

Not much news seems to be going on today, or at least I’m not aware of it. I don’t really have a set computer yet so the sites I visit every single day are getting severely neglected. I’m headed out of here in just a little while (how nice is that?) to catch some of my cousin’s modified softball game before I head home. I should go to dance tonight but Sue isn’t going and I really haven’t had a night to myself yet this week and I intend to do that tonight. Maybe I’ll even have time to watch Heroes before The Office comes on. Anyway, TGIF to you all and enjoy your evening!

Mitchell Investigation

Can't they bother a team that's played well in the last few years?

Celebrity Run-ins..

These are two emails I got in the last 24 hours:

The first one is from my friend Anthony, who does ticketing for the Atlanta Braves:
thought you'd be interested in this. I just got an e-mail ticket request and this was the title of the lady that e-mailed me....Administrative Assistant to Cal Ripken, Jr. Ripken Baseball, Inc.

As if that weren’t enough, my friend Tim works for a country radio station in Florida, and today he sent me a picture of him with Huey Lewis. What have I done to deserve not having the good fortune of my friends? And what did I NOT do in my life to NOT be the one to meet and/or be acquainted with two of my favorites? I mean.. who do I have to talk to in order to get THAT job!? I will send in my resume.. STAT!!!

FINALLY (lots of caps today, huh?) Billy Ray Cyrus and Karina Smirnoff were voted off Dancing with the Stars, but the big surprise might have been that Joey Fatone and Kym Johnson were also in the bottom two with them! Then again, there are four strong couples left and two of them will have to be in the bottom… It’s going to get pretty interesting. I DVR’d the show from Monday night but haven’t had the chance to watch it. I think if Billy Ray DIDN’T get voted off, I’d probably rush right home to watch and find out why. I’m sure I’ll still watch it, just not right this second.

Last night J. and I went to see Hot Fuzz, from the same guys who made Shaun of the Dead. If you liked Shaun of the Dead, I promise you’ll like Hot Fuzz. The movie was pretty funny; J. almost choked on our popcorn a time or two, but you have to have a certain sense of humor to enjoy it. It was a fun way to waste 2 hours and since it was bargain nite it cost under $20 even with popcorn and a soda. THAT is why I go to the movies in Hudson.

I'm supposed to go to a happy hour for my old job tonight, but I'm not sure I want to. Ok, I don't want to, but I feel obligated to go. It'll more than likely be a good time, I just don't feel like driving up to Albany and trying to find a parking spot. I'm such a loser. One of the girls that used to work there will be there, so I feel like I should go so I can see her, as it's been a few months. I'll let you know what I decide.

Tomorrow I'm in the office all by my lonesome (yep, they trust me already) so if I don't get to post again today, you can bet your ass I'll be able to do so tomorrow. Either way, have a wonderful hump day and as always, act accordingly!!!

How things have been..

The new job is going really well. I’m enjoying it already, and have plenty of work to do! The commute is wonderful: I’ve had ¼ of a tank of gas in my car since Friday. I’d have had to fill it up already if I still worked in Albany. I know it’s only been one day, but being out at 4:00 is amazing. I can actually do things after work while it’s still light out! I don’t know if I can ever work till 5:00 again!!

The weekend was pretty decent. Friday night, J. and I just went to dinner and had a few beers before we passed out. I had gone into work early so I was kind of tired and drained from the events of the day. On Saturday we went to my friends Cinco de Mayo party, which was fun. I made my own tacos and got to see my other friend’s brand new twins. They are getting cuter by the day, as they were so tiny in the beginning that they looked a tad alien-like. Not anymore! J. and I went to the batting cages afterwards, where we both killed our hands with their shitty bats and no batting gloves. After that I stopped at my goddaughter’s softball game for a bit. It would have been longer, but the wind was whipping and I was FREEZING! I made it two innings and I was pretty impressed by that! She hit the ball well both times I saw her up, even though she got out. After that, J. and I stopped and got some dinner and then headed back to his place, where I subsequently passed out at 9:30, which explains why I was wide awake at 7 am. I watched the Michael J. Fox True Hollywood Story to kill time, then headed over to the outlets to get a mother’s day present and shower present. I even managed to get myself a few little things! When I got home my whole family was over planting flowers and such outside the house, and my mom made dinner. I went grocery shopping in the meantime and later on FINALLY watched Half Nelson. It wasn’t bad, but for some reason I expected more. Anyway, my cousin Laura came over near the end of Sopranos so she could watch Entourage, and then it was time for bed.

Last night I had my first softball game of the year. I EH’d. Have I mentioned how much I hate EHing? I just don’t like not being involved in the game as anything more than scorekeeper, but since we have a lot of girls most of the time, I suck it up. I’m kind of glad I didn’t have to go in though, because if my hitting was any indication of how I was going to play, it would not have been a pretty sight. We did win our game and it was really great to see everyone again. We have a lot of Monday night games, so thank goodness Dancing with the Stars and Heroes will be done soon! I can’t stand not being able to watch when it’s on!!!

Anyway, I just wanted to give you a quick update as to what’s going on with me. In other news, Ty Pennington (of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition) got busted on Saturday night for a DWI… or something to that effect. But he’s apologized, so it’s ok! It looks like Paris Hilton might really go to jail!! That’s awesome! I bet they don’t let her accessorize that little orange jumpsuit. She’s going to get her ass kicked! Karma really is a bitch, isn’t it? Let’s see, what else. The O’s are out of the cellar for now, but have lost Adam Loewen (probably for the season) due to a stress fracture in his elbow. Just when we think we can win, we lose!

Enjoy your week and I’ll do my best to post again soon!!

The Bottom of the Barrel

Let's put this into perspective. We're only ONE game out of second place... but we're the only ones who are. Also, everyone else is 5.5 games out (obviously, we're 6.5). What is up with the AL East? Let's put Tampa Bay back in the cellar where they belong!!!!

HAPPY LAST DAY TO ME!!!!!

This is it! Today is my last day here and I couldn’t be happier. Granted, I’m bored out of my gourd, but I guess that’s to be expected, right? I’ve actually whored myself out for some work so I can at least get through the day. Today is also (finally) our steak lunch at 677 Prime, which I’m very much looking forward to. I’ll probably lapse into a food coma for my last three hours at work, but what are they going to do? Fire me!? I think not. So, for those of you that do email me at work, make sure you email me at my home email from now on.

In other news, did anyone watch Grey’s Anatomy last night? I thought it was great and I really liked the setup for the spin-off. Granted, I’d watch Taye Diggs do pretty much anything, but I was happy to see him finally get a show where he was both the smartass and a bit sensitive. He definitely had all the good sarcastic lines. I think I laughed out loud a few times. The episode was great! I mean… Callie as a bridesmaid? Priceless. She has to continue on the show even if she realized George is in love with Izzie, as was evidenced by their elevator kiss last night. If you both know it’s wrong, DON’T DO IT!!!! I so didn’t see Mere’s stepmom’s death coming, and her dad slapping her!? Granted, it was emotions and he didn’t really meant it, but with their relationship that might just have been the straw that broke the camel’s back. I mean, the step mom was the one constantly trying to get them together and now that she’s gone, the relationship probably is too! I loved how Bailey made George and Burke talk after both of them came to her for marriage advice. She’s a piece of work. As for Addison and her stuff in Cali, well.. I would definitely watch her show. I mean.. the woman came in and stole back her husband from Meredith and you still couldn’t hate her. That is the kind of woman that deserves her own show! Plus, have I mentioned that Taye Diggs is on the show?

The O’s had an off day, but they used it to announce the induction of BJ Surhoff into the Orioles Hall of Fame. The induction will be held at the Yard on August 25th. BJ spent somewhere around seven seasons (on and off) with the O’s and I think he is a good fit for their hall. Congratulations BJ!!!

This might be my final post of the day as I have a lot to get done before I can get out of here without a guilty conscience. Ok, that’s a lie. I will NOT feel guilty if I don’t get everything done, but you get my drift. So, just in case, enjoy your weekend and your Friday! Happy Cinco de Mayo! Let the tequila and margaritas flow!!!!

Viva Las Vegas!!!

I don’t know if anyone really knows this, but I was in the audience (along with my mother) at one of Barry Manilow’s preview shows before he opened his stage show in Las Vegas. I’ve never been a Fanilow or anything, but I can recall singing Copacabana to my grandparents at Sunday dinners, so we go way back. Anyway, it was my first real Las Vegas show and it was absolutely insane! He put on one hell of a performance and I’d go back to see him again in a heartbeat. I found out yesterday (but forgot to post about it) that Bette Midler will be replacing Celine Dion when she stops performing at the Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. She will begin rehearsing in October and begin performances in February of 2008. Tickets are EXPENSIVE.. the lowest prices are $95.00, but I’ve seen her in person and she’s worth every penny. I can only imagine what she’ll do with a Las Vegas stage show. It’ll be crazy!!!

Busta Rhymes lives up to his name (kind of) as he’s been busted in NYC for driving while impaired. This is not his first run-in with the law and it probably won’t be his last, but it really sucks to get pulled over for having your windows tinted too dark, then getting clipped for DWI.

Entertainment Weekly is releasing five different covers for its Heroes themed issue this week (I have a feeling I won’t be one of the lucky ones to get the Mohinder, Peter, Parkman issue; I’m more than likely to get the Linderman/Sylar one. That’s my luck!). Anyway, if you go to their website, they’ve put clues on each of the covers containing teasers and information regarding Heroes and it’s season finale episode. If you have any interest in Heroes, you should check it out as some clues are more in depth than others.

Note to self: If you eat the whole bag in a sitting or two, it really doesn't matter if the chips are the baked kind. I’ve realized that it’s definitely time to get back into the gym next week or I’ll be paying shit loads of money in material so the seamstress can make my bridesmaid dress bigger, not smaller as I’d hoped. I’m going to do Pilates DVD’s, cardio and try to take as many cardio classes as I can to force that not to happen. Oh yeah… and I’ll probably buy industrial strength underwear. You know the kind.. they basically bind you from your boobs to mid-thigh. That is what I’m talking about!

Enjoy your Thursday night!

ANTM Recap

We’re down to the final four in America’s Next Top Model and finally, whiny Brittany was sent home. I never found her to be conventionally attractive, but she did take some beautiful pictures. Anyway, the girls are still in Sydney, Australia and they have three and a half hours and their own cab driver to hit some go-sees (where they “go-see” a designer and perhaps get hired). Well, everyone is doing pretty well. Dionne continuously asks if she can keep the clothes and scores some free stuff (I can’t believe that wasn’t bought up at panel), but even with all that personality, she comes off a little hard. Renee and Jaslene are killing their go-see’s and manage to make it back to the modeling agency with some time to spare. Brittany however, walks like a horse and no one would hire her. She decides to do one last go-see and tells her cab driver she’s going to “such and such street.” She comes out and finds her cab driver not there, and she freaks out and has to walk back to where she left him even though “she told him to meet her over there.” Yeah… she didn’t. They even go back to the tape to prove she didn’t. It’s pretty inevitable that she’s going to be late and she’s met outside of the modeling agency by Natasha, who was literally one minute late, but gracefully handled herself. Brittany… not so much. She dropped the f-bomb at least 1400 times, cursed her faultless cab driver and everyone inside the agency (including the owner and the host of Australia’s Next Top Model 3) could hear her every word. The girl is FULL of excuses! Natasha tried to talk her off the ledge but it was to no avail, but it was hysterical watching the exchange. Jaslene ended up winning the challenge and she picked Dionne to share a photo shoot on top of the Sydney Harbor Bridge with her. The pictures were beautiful and taken by Judge Nigel Barker.

The next step was for the girls to take two pictures: One for a women’s magazine taken by Tyra, and one for a men’s magazine taken by Australian photographer Michael Omm. Natasha, Renee and Jaslene really nailed both their pictures, leaving Brittany and Dionne in the bottom two. Dionne was there because she comes off really hard and needed a lot of coaching to get through her shots. Brittany, well, mainly because no one would have hired her off her go-see’s and her excuses and temper tantrums probably didn’t help. Granted, Brittany’s pictures were better than Dionne’s but you have to get hired in order to have pictures! Brittany insists she’s not this much of a crier in real life, but I highly doubt it.

Anyway, next week looks pretty entertaining as Renee plots to get her, Dionne and Jaslene in the final three, probably because Natasha is her biggest competition. I think her plot will be thwarted, but I hope she doesn’t go home because of it. She’s been my pick to win since the get-go. Also, I realized that three out of the four girls in the final four are mothers. I'm about to get myself knocked up if that's what happens after you have kids! (It's a joke guys... I'd join the Army to get in shape before I'd have a baby...)

Not that I care like I did last year, but Phil Stacey and Chris Richardson were sent home on American Idol. Phil never really impressed me (even though he IS bald) but I didn't think Chris was so bad. However, he didn't compare to the ones that are still in. I'm still rooting for a final two of Blake and Jordin. Hell, if that happens I might even watch the final, but I won't be attending the concert this year (dates were announced yesterday). No Daughtry, no Kara in attendance. Ooh.. speaking of which (not Daughtry, But AI) I heard Elliot Yamin's new song on the radio yesterday. It's a tad slower than I like, but it's quite good. I love his voice and I really wanted him to win AI once Chris departed. Anyway, the song is called "Wait for You" and I suggest you download it. Apparently he was at the Bayou Cafe in Albany last Thursday and I missed it, so I hope he'll come around again.

TTFN!!!

High School Centric Post

I heard the Huey Lewis song “Perfect World” on the XM 80’s station this morning. As I’m jamming along, I realized that I took my senior quote from it:

Now here we are amid the tears and the laughter, still waiting for our happily ever after.
We’ll keep on dreaming as long as we can. Try to remember and you’ll understand.

What can I say? I couldn’t NOT have Huey Lewis as my senior quote. It would have gone against everything I hold dear to me and for some reason I don’t think “I Want a New Drug” would have passed by the yearbook censors.

I don’t know what’s in the water in this town, but I have at least two friends who will give birth this month, not to mention that J’s sister is due around the same time as my friends. My friend Lynn was in the hospital earlier this week but everything has turned out fine so far. She has another appointment on Friday and if things aren’t perfect, they’ll probably induce. My other friend Tara is due with her second child the same time as Lynn and she’s already one centimeter dilated. Her first baby was a hefty 10 pounds, and if she goes full term they told her this one will be around 9 pounds. It’s hysterical since Tara is so tall, but she’s skinny as a rail! I don’t know where these big babies are coming from. Tara insists that I’m next. I insist they should book her a room in the psych ward. I've only recently begun to be able to hold a baby, let alone have one of my own. I like my free time.. my quiet free time.

More news later… I have a list, I promise.

Scorpion Bowl 2007

Friday night roomies
Alumni girls at the games on Saturday
Everyone loves a good social

Thank goodness for small favors

The O's have an off day tomorrow, which means.... THEY CAN'T LOSE!!!! They lost to Detroit again today, 3-2, and while Perlozzo tried to shake up their offense, it didn't seem to do much good. Can't really blame Trachsel.. he made it past the usual fifth inning that troubles O's pitchers and only allowed three runs in his seven innings. It looks like Mora (batting 4th), Hernandez (batting 5th) and Markakis (batting 7th) didn't take too kindly to their new (and hopefully temporary) placements in the batting order, contributing no hits to their O's offensive effort. Pinch hitters Huff and Gibbons didn't do any damage either, nor did DH Kevin Millar. Just when one thing starts to work, another shits the bed. Ah, the life of an Oriole fan.

Burning Down the House

Once again, I tried to cook. My friend Rachael had given me what seemed to be an easy recipe for chicken parmesan, which is one of J’s favorite meals (or so I assume as he orders it whenever we go out for Italian food). I stopped off at the store to get sauce and cheese, and then thought “What goes great with chicken parm? Garlic bread of course!” So, I picked up a loaf of garlic bread too, and I was really looking forward to it, as garlic bread is one of my favorite reasons to eat Italian. So, as I was just starting to cook the chicken parm, J. comes over and basically watches me do everything. He cooks pretty well and has done so all his life, so he was constantly correcting (or as he says “helping”) me. I know he meant well, but I got kind of irritated because he just kept saying that he didn’t make it like I make it. So then I was starting to get nervous that it wouldn’t come out right and I hovered over the stove (after being pelted with really hot sauce when I turned it on high to heat it up instead of simmer - so yes.. sometimes he’s right). The chicken came out really good and I even did well with the spaghetti (my first time). As everything was cooling down I put the oven on broiler so the garlic bread would cook. I ran into the other room to watch Jeopardy (College edition) and when I went back in to check on the garlic break I was greeted with a puff of smoke upon opening the oven. Yep… charred beyond recognition. There was NO saving that bread. I was so disappointed, because as I said, REALLY looking forward to it. J. was pretty good about taking it out and throwing it behind the house for the birds (so it wouldn’t go to waste) but started laughing the minute he got in the house because he couldn’t believe that I did so well with everything but fucked up the easiest part of the meal. He tried to console me a little, but the hearty laughs in between made me think he wasn’t really sincere about it. Regardless, the meal was very good and I was pretty full after only one helping. He, of course, was not and managed to chow down on whatever was left. No leftovers with this guy, that’s for sure. Anyway, we watched NCIS and House, then channel surfed until we crashed. I’m telling you, it’s a good thing we’re not famous because we could never sustain the lifestyle. But I’d take the money cause I could use a new pair of shoes…

To quote Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey in “How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days”, “bullshit!” That’s how I feel about last night’s ousting on Dancing with the Stars. The bottom two consisted of John/Edyta and Billy Ray/Karina. I LOATHE Karina Smirnoff. I just think she’s a bratty diva and anytime she talks it reminds me of nails on a chalkboard. Anyway, you knew these two were going to be in the bottom, it was just a matter of who was going home. Well, as you can guess from my tone, Billy Ray and Karina get to stay another week! What the hell? I mean, I’m not saying John and Edyta were the best but they weren’t as bad as Billy Ray and Karina. What I like is that Billy Ray knows he sucks and I’m sure he anticipated going home because he’s not an idiot (well, kind of)! He looked petrified to have to learn two new dances, as he should be. Next week will be interesting to see who makes it into the bottom two with him. My guess is Ian.

It’s a tad boring here at work so I’ll try to come up with some more to post later. What can I say? I’m tying up loose ends which isn’t taking me as long as anticipated, and no one is giving me new work so I’m at a loss. I guess that just makes you all the lucky ones. Happy Hump Day!!

And the ugliness continues

The O's dropped ANOTHER game (8 of their last 9) to Detroit last night and yet another pitcher couldn't go past the fifth inning. Loewen left the game with some pain in his forearm, which hopefully will not cause him to join Kris Benson and Jaret Wright on the DL. Hopefully Steve Trachsel can perform today and stop this nasty fall from grace. I said yesterday that at least we weren't the Yankees. Well, we're getting close and for once that is NOT a good thing.

Hopefully, the Last Heinous Bitch Story

But it's only Tuesday so things can change.

Yesterday, the other bond paralegal, myself and the three bond secretaries were supposed to go downstairs to this really nice steakhouse that's in our building for lunch. One of the attorneys had given us a gift certificate for staff appreciation day and we had been planning it since last week. Well, around 11 (our reservations were at 12) she decided it was too busy to have everyone go at once so we had to postpone till Friday. Great.. I hadn't anticipated spending any considerable amount of money on lunch and since I thought I was going out to lunch, I didn't bring anything with me. As you can imagine, I was pissed! Funny thing is, two of the secretaries and I went next door to lunch and found the other paralegal at the same restaurant with a friend of hers. So really, there was only one of us that didn't take lunch at the same time. It was so ridiculous.. I'm soooo happy that i'm not involved in the closing they're doing now. It's tomorrow and it's been a bit of a clusterfuck of epic proportions.. It makes going to Rochester last week completely worth it.

My Monday Night Routine

I almost forgot that I had to blog about my night of TV watching! (I did laundry too, but I figured posting about that might get a little creepy and weird, so we'll go with a star studded night of TV!) I did NOT have the time to put the pictures of the weekend on my computer. I wanted to get through The Benchwarmers before Dancing with the Stars came on. In brief, it was silly and stupid, but it had its laugh out loud funny moments. Nice thing is, it was only an hour and 20 minutes long. Sometimes you need a movie without a huge time commitment! Now, let’s get down to business:

Two perfect 30’s of the night, leaving Laila and Maks tied with Kym and Joey at the top of the leader board with 59. Both couples had stellar performances, and I was pretty impressed considering they had to learn two dances instead of just one. The middle group is Apolo and Julianne (who I think got unjustifiably reamed for their Fox Trot) and Ian and Cheryl. Ian FINALLY showed a little passion and less stiffness, which bodes well for him for the rest of the competition. As expected, the bottom two are Billy Ray and Karina and John and Edyta. Edyta has to have the most beautiful body I’ve ever seen, but she was looking really hippy in the dresses she wore last night. So weird.. My prediction (or hope I should say) is that Billy Ray will finally bite the bullet. Either way, it’s going to be another week or so before the competition really heats up between Laila, Apolo, Ian and Joey. I can’t say for sure who I really want to win because all four of them are amazing… but I might have to go with Apolo or Laila.. It’d be nice to see the final girl standing give all the boys a run for their money.

I don’t know what happened, but my f’n DVR cut out before I could see the very end of Heroes and what happens next week. I was LIVID to say the least. Still, it was a great episode heading five years into the future. Things have changed considerably after the apocalyptic blast and many of our favorite heroes aren’t in the picture anymore. Niki/Jessica is now with Peter in Las Vegas, where I admit, he looks kind of sexy with the slicked back hair and scar! Parkman’s a bad guy and Nathan Petrelli is the President. Well, not really.. it’s Sylar posing as Nathan Petrelli and the episode ends with what looks to be an epic battle between Sylar and Peter after Sylar kills Future Hiro, perhaps erasing any hope Hiro and Ando had of going back in time to kill Sylar. Claire was also alive, but Sylar tricks her with his Nathan Petrelli façade and slices her head from behind. There are LOTS of questions to be answered but I liked the episode. Granted, none of those things will probably happen, as there will be so many chances to change fate, but we’ll have to wait and see what they are.

In other TV news, Rescue Me returns to FX on June 12th and My Life on the D-List is back on Bravo on June 5th. The third season of Rescue Me should be out on DVD in June, which would really help me to get back on track. I didn’t have DVR last summer so I missed some episodes.

Finally, this story is kind of unreal. As many of you may know I am not a fan of My Space, but this is just a tad ridiculous, even for me!

Happy May Day!!!!

How the Mighty Have Fallen...

Ok, it might be a bit much to call the O’s “the mighty” but for a while there, they sure were acting like it. Last night was just another one of those games where the pitching wasn’t there. Cabrera threw over 100 pitches and was lacking in control, at one point pegging Gary Sheffield in the back. The benches cleared when Jeremy Bonderman supposedly threw at Miguel Tejada in response to Cabrera’s plunking of Sheffield but it wasn’t necessary. Apparently you don’t want to piss Sheffield off because he retaliated on his own with a 2 run home run, as Cabrera stealthily stared him down on his trot around the bases. Shit’s getting ugly for the O’s, but at least we’re not the Yankees. (Thanks to www.orioles.com for the picture)
