1. Damn Yankees...
2. Have you learned NOTHING from your Hollywood frenemies!?
3. Good god, doesn't ANYONE stay together anymore?
What has gone on this week. People are crazy.. must be the holidays. Cash Warren and Jessica Alba got engaged, as did Josh Duhamel and Fergie.. I think it's nice that Cash is gonna make an honest woman out of Jessica.. that's sweet..
As for me.. I've been a slacker this holiday, huh!? My bad.. I'll try to get you caught up!
We won our last two soccer games to finish the season in second place with a record of 7-1. Our double header was TOUGH!! I admit, I was totally winded AND played like shit, which is not a great combination. Luckily, our many fans cheering us on helped and we pulled out both games. The last game we played was a tad scadnalous, as we scored a goal when their entire team wasn't on the field. However, Rudy the Ref told us to play and you do NOT mess with Rudy!! The woman who didn't make it back from the bathroom in time spent LITERALLY 15 minutes bitching to Rudy, but it was to no avail. She then bitched at the front desk about it, but again, it did no good. We start a new session this week with our new name: Wu Tang.. We wanted to be pootie tang, but it was deemed inappropriate.
I had dinner with my friend Crystal, who I went to Ireland with, her sister Jenny, my friend Rachael, who I went to visit in Ireland, her sister Shaine and Rachael's man Danny.. What a doll.. He's living in Ireland but is originally from New Zealand so I basically just wanted to listen to him talk. I'm a sucker for an accent. Unfortunately, with us four girls he could hardly get a word in edgewise! It was such a great time though. We had a great waiter and entertaining conversation, not to mention great food at Moscatiello's. What more could a girl ask for?!
It's time for me to practice on the Wii. I'm determined to beat J at bowling (I've already killed him in baseball and the home run derby, but he's got me at bowling so far).

Revelation
Today is the first day I realized that in "Walk Like An Egyptian" by The Bangles, they say "foreign types at the hookah pipe say." I always thought it was "foreign types in the hooker place say." I like my version better.
I'd write more, but Tre and I got the Wii for Christmas so... that's what I'll be doing. Yes, we're 31. Yes, we're spoiled.. Don't you wish you were too? ;)

Christmas = Friends = Good Times
Last night we had a party at our house, as my friend Chris is in town for the holidays from South Carolina. I think everyone had a great time and there was TONS of food!!! I made these seasoned pecans, which were a recipe I got from my cousin Chrissy (she likes to call them her "sweet nuts") and I also made a chicken wing dip that turned out really well. Yes, everyone was shocked that they were eating food made by me, and probably even more shocked that they enjoyed it! My ex Bill even came to the party. He and Chris moved down to SC at the same time, but he moved back last year. I haven't seen him in at least four years, and it was really nice to hang out and chat with him as well. Here are some pictures to keep you busy!
That's me and Amy... don't we look amazing from that angle?

Tara, me and Shani.. It's just like high school... ya know, minus the kids (well, for them). Higgie, Tre, Jen and I... It's like Columbia Greene all over again! Yeah.. last night was kind of a reunion type deal!
Time for me to get a move on. I spent my day cooking my chocolate peanut butter balls, more pecans and some chocolate chip cookies, so I'm ready to relax. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

I'm still stuffed
Last night was our holiday dinner for work. We left the office around 3:30 and started off with drinks. I had what was called a "cobalt highballer" consisting of milk, vanilla, chocolate and butterscotch liquers and vodka.. topped with whipped cream and chocolate chips. It was potent and good.. I could feel it after just one, which is sad cause I really don't consider myself a total lightweight, but whatever. We were having appetizers so I thought I'd switch to beer... when the waitress brought us another round of the same thing. Lord!!! My co-worker and I both drank water at dinner just to compensate for the fact that we were already half in the bag! Our dinner was good, even though we were the only table in the restaurant. I guess everyone else was finishing off their Christmas shopping or something! We went to Lippera's in Chatham, where I'd never been before, and I had filet mignon with mashed potatoes (extra mashed since i said "NO" to the veggies they offered) then finished it off with a chocolate ganache cheesecake and an "adult" hot cocoa... MMMM... might have to start making those for myself! I went home, put on my jammy pants and somehow didn't pass out from food coma immediately. I'm still in shock and awe over how that didn't happen!
Our winning streak is still intact. We won 5-3 on Wednesday night, but it was a see-saw kind of game. We got three goals really quickly (ok.. one of them went off one of their players, but it still counts!) and I think we got a little lazy and cocky. The other team started to put stuff together and I believe it was 3-2 at halftime. We came back swinging though, and would have kept them scoreless had they not scored off Nikki's face (she was still sore yesterday!). We play them in the first game of our doubleheader next week so hopefully most of us having the day off and the added allure of fans will be just enough to net us a win. We're in second place in our league right now, which is pretty awesome, considering the trainwreck we were last session. It looks like we're going to play in the Winter 2 session, although people do seem to be dropping like flies. I guess it's just the season!
We all know of my love for The Real Housewives of Orange County and Jeana Keough. This gives her just one more good reason to no longer be with her husband, Matt.
If you're a Scrubs fan and an Office fan, this could work out well for you. I mean, come on. Who didn't kind of give Roy another look after his breakup from Pam makeover?!
Matt Damon? Oh no.. I'm going to go with THIS list for my next man.. espcially cause Peyton is on it... but he's not as high as Bill Belichick, which on this list, is a compliment.
Miss Heroes already? Here's a pseudo sneak peek.
Not much else to tell ya.. it's been one of those weeks I guess, with everyone getting ready for the holiday. I have a lot of cookie baking in my future so I might not have a chance to post until after the holidays. If that's the case, have a great Christmas!!

My Nomination for Mom of the Year
Oh Lynne Spears, where did you go wrong? I really thought this story as "breaking news" on MSNBC was a joke. Oh well... maybe this one will do what Britney couldn't.. ya know.. be a mother! (Ok, i know it's laughable, but I'm really trying to give the kid the benefit of the doubt).
Last night, I took J to Five Guys Burgers and Fries for dinner. I'd been wanting to go there for quite some time, and since he'd never been there I thought it'd be a great place for dinner. Let me tell you, the burgers were really great! Luckily, the girl thought I only said one large fry instead of two, because there is no way I would have eaten a whole one by myself. You certainly get some bang for your buck! I mean, we each got a bacon double cheeseburger, drinks and an order of fries (from Rigby, Idaho, might I add) for just under $20. Not so bad (especially if you're paying for dinner)! After that we went to see I Am Legend. I thought it was pretty good. I think J would have thought better of it if at one point I hadn't dug my nails so deep in his leg that there's NO WAY he doesn't still have the marks there today. What can I say? I'm a jumper and there were plenty of opportunities to do so in this movie. I recommend this movie. I think anyone would like it, even if you don't like the sci-fi elements, as there are other stories to keep you busy!
Tonight is soccer night at Afrim's! We're playing in Latham at 8:30, which is a change from our original schedule, which had us playing about an hour earlier. Oh well, what can you do? We also play this team next week, so we want to kick their ass the first time, and make them not even want to show up next week! Ok.. they seem pretty decent, so really we'd just like to win. No one wants to break the streak! I think I'll stick to defense tonight, unless we get up by quite a bit. I do want that goal, but not bad enough to F up our system. Viva La Lushes!!!
Happy Hump Day... Do what you can ;)

Still Supporting...
Honesty may be the best policy in this situation.
Am I disappointed? Yes, but does that mean I'll turn my back on my boy? No.. I mean, he admits to doing it once and realizes what a mistake he made. I give him a lot of credit for admitting it. I only hope others take his lead and give themselves the opportunity to bow down at the feet of the fans for forgiveness. We all make mistakes, but the public eye magnifies them a million times more. I think if you take the high road, the fans will give the benefit of the doubt. That's why they're fans.
I'm anxious to hear the O's official statement on the situation, and what will happen to B-Rob in the meantime. I mean, can you really penalize him for a one-time thing he admitted to? The jury's still out.

It might not be as cute as last year
but the O's holiday card always gives me the warm fuzzies.
Remember that 10 pounds I lost? Yeah... Christmas cookies are going to shoot that to shit, I'll tell ya that much.

It's Nice to Know
that some people aren't afraid to stick up for you when it's obvious you're being thrown under the bus.
I need to get some work done today, but I managed to get J a grilling set for Christmas. He loves to grill, regardless of the weather, so I thought it'd be something he'd enjoy all year round. Now hopefully it'll come in before Christmas. I think tomorrow is the last day for standard shipping so I might be in decent shape. I might throw in a small bottle of Jack Daniels to go with it. I mean, who DOESN'T booze it up a bit when they're grilling?

I don't understand
why a substance called "cream of tartar" is in powder form. I had to buy some yesterday to make my snickerdoodles (which I subsequently burned this afternoon), and I looked all over the baking aisle and I couldn't find them. My dad happened to be working so I asked him, and he took me to the spice section, where it was pretty easy to find. I never would have guessed it was a spice of sorts. I mean.. it's called CREAM of tartar.. Hello!!! It should NOT be in powder form.
I got to leave work early on Thursday due to the snow storm that blanketed the region with our first really substantial snowfall. I'd say we had at least six inches. I was pretty terrified of driving home because I have to deal with the Columbiaville Hill, which can be mighty treacherous in snow and ice. Somehow I made it all the way home without even sliding once, which was great! I had figured I'd spend the rest of the day at home, but my friend Amy called and decided she wanted to go to lunch. Hell, she has a Nissan Pathfinder and apparently no fear of driving in said conditions, so I said "why not?" Amy, Fish, Tre and I all headed down to the Wunderbar for burgers and beers, and boy was it a great burger! I spent the rest of the day/night at home, watching TV and just buying time until I could go to bed. I was pretty damn bored, what with all that unexpected free time!
Mom, Tre and I went to Woodbury Commons on Friday. I believe we got all the Christmas shopping done that we needed, and I even managed to coerce my mom into buying me a couple more things to stick under the tree. Not so bad! I was pretty beat but had to go to bowling that night, where (as per usual lately) i bowled tremendously bad, but we won the first half of the league which means a little more money in my pocket at season's end than usual. After that, I met J at the Rennselaer Elks Lodge, where he was playing darts and drinking with some buddies. This was my payback for him picking me up from Winter Walk. What I don't understand (and need to work on) is that when he picks me up, I'm ready to go. When I pick him up, I'm still out for four hours after that! Anyway, i had a couple beers and played some darts, then we went back to his friends' house as there was a challenge going down on Madden Football. It was around this time I started to fall asleep and was consistently awakened as I wasn't paying enough attention to the video game. J had said we'd leave by 12 - 12:30 but we didn't get to go until around 1:00. I didn't really care, but at that point I was just beat to shit. It'd been a long day.
Saturday morning J took me out to breakfast and I asked him if we were exchanging Christmas presents. I didn't care either way, but I didn't want him to get me something and have me be empty handed. He said "I told you I was getting you a Peyton Manning jersey like.. six months ago!" So I guess now I have to figure something out... 9 days before Christmas. If anyone has an idea, I'll take it! Anyway, after that I went to the store where said "cream of tartar" incident occurred and it was packed! I guess everyone was petrified about not being able to get out of their houses today so everyone and their mother was at Shoprite. As per usual, I got behind the slowest person in the world, who then proceeded to drop an entire gallon of water on the floor, soaking it and everyone around. Yep.. good times. Tre and I then went to a friend's house for a party, and we had a blast! There was great food, lots of beer and some people we hadn't seen in quite a while. We would have stayed longer but with the impending weather forecast, mom and dad picked us up around 10:30. To be honest, we didn't need to be there much longer. We both had the load on something fierce. Tre spent the night hiding beer cans around our host's house and I spent the night housing some chicken wing dip. My cousin needs to give me the recipe cause it was really great and seemed easy to make. Notice I said SEEMED.
We woke up this morning to a winter wonderland. it's been such a weird weather day. It was snowing early, then I woke up around 3:00 to the sound of freezing rain on the roof. Late that morning it started to snow again, then POURED freezing rain. Now it looks like it's not doing much, but I hear the wind is going to be prety insane. I really hope we don't lose power. I just don't have the time or the patience for it.
I caught up on some of the things that were taking up space on my DVR this week so here goes a quick recap:
Saleisha won America's Next Top Model. Once they booted Jenah early in the episode, it was kind of a no-brainer. When the Cover Girl commercial was shown, it ended with Saleisha's face. That, and Chantal shit the bed during the final runway challenge. She reacted when she made one of the guys on stilts fall. Big mistake.. Big.. HUGE! So, your winner is Saleisha. I still don't get it, but that's why I'm not a model scout, I guess.
Project Runway was a bit of a tear jerker this week. Everyone was relling from the exit of Chris, when Jack decided he had to leave the show himself. It appears he had a staph infection on his face that just continued to get worse and it would have been detrimental to his health (and maybe the health of others) to stay. Everyone was upset, and then Tim showed up to save the day, inviting Chris back to compete. He got a late start so he was able to stay up all night to finish his job. The assignment was to create an outfit for a woman who had recently lost a lot of weight, but to use the clothes she was wearing to create the new outfit. All but one woman had normal clothes on, but another had a wedding dress and youcould tell everyone was praying they wouldn't get her. Steven was the unlucky one, and he got booted because of it. I'm so going to miss him, even if it's for nothing more than saying "sweet merciful crap" when he realized he had the wedding dress girl. He and Elisa were in the bottom two this week and I think if Steven had used more of the wedding dress fabric in his creation (he made a black dress and only used the wedding dress as collar and cuffs), the judges might have saved him for another week.
That's about all I can handle for today. I've got movies to watch and laundry to do! Drive safe and hope you enjoyed your weekend and got all your Christmas shopping done!

Speculation
That is basically the gist behind the Mitchell Report. I mean, the majority of what is revealed is that athletes used steroids before they were considered illegal. Wow... shocker. My baby, Brian Roberts has been implicated in the Mitchell Report and here's what it said:
Bigbie recalled meeting Kirk Radomski in 2003 during a trip to New York. Segui introduced Bigbie and Brian Roberts to Radomski over lunch. Afterward, Segui made a steroid purchase from Radomski from inside Radomski’s car, which, according to Bigbie, was heavily stocked with performance enhancing substances and paraphernalia. Roberts was not present.
Brian Roberts is an infielder who has played for the Baltimore Orioles since 2001. He has been selected to two All-Star teams.
Roberts and Larry Bigbie were both rookies in 2001. According to Bigbie, both he and Roberts lived in Segui’s house in the Baltimore area during the latter part of that season. When Bigbie and Segui used steroids in the house, Roberts did not participate.
According to Bigbie, however, in 2004 Roberts admitted to him that he had injected himself once or twice with steroids in 2003. Until this admission, Bigbie had never suspected Roberts of using steroids.
In order to provide Roberts with information about these allegations and to give him an opportunity to respond, I asked him to meet with me; he declined.
That's all it says about him. I mean, is that sufficient evidence? I think not.. and I'm honestly not just saying it because it's Brian Roberts. I think the whole Andy Pettite-Roger Clemens thing is kind of bullshit too. I mean, Pettite admitted to doing it to heal quicker, not to give him an edge, and it wasn't when the drugs were considered illegal by MLB. I just really hope that MLB doesn't penalize these people for past dalliances. I mean, if the drugs weren't considered illegal, how can you harm them for it!? If a player gets caught now (Jay Gibbons, I'm speaking to you) they deserve everything they get, as it's been made quite obvious what drugs are legal and what drugs are illegal AND it's no secret that everyone involved in MLB is going to get drug tested. If you get caught, you're an idiot. Don't get me wrong, I didn't read the whole report (it WAS 409 pages long, give me a break) but it seems that little information we didn't expect was found. Basically, it's just given a lot of people bad reputations they may not quite deserve.

Why am I here?
I'm at work.. everything is shutting down in anticipation of the snow that's coming, and that makes me not want to be here even more. It doesn't help that my sister is a teacher and today is her second snow day of the week. Couple that with the fact that we both have tomorrow off to go Christmas shopping with my mom and you can imagine how badly I want to leave. After the guardrail incident I'm a tad skittish when it comes to driving in snow/ice, so my co-worker and I have devised a plan to get out early. Hopefully it works. I'd tell you about it, but I'd have to kill you.
I'm a tequila.... Speaking of which, does anyone watch that damn Tila Tequila show on MTV? I admit, I don't, but there have been marathons aplenty and i know the final two are a guy and a girl that looks like a guy. I never got that.. If I were a lesbian, I'd totally date a hot chick.. not a girl who looks like a guy... However, I'm pulling for Dani, the firefighter from Florida. She seems like a cool chick and as manly as she is, she looks better than me in a bikini... Bitch.. It could be over now for all I know, but I figured I'd give my opinion anyway!
Here's a funny for today and the holiday season.
Ike Turner died... and Tina doesn't really care... Maybe truth and time don't tell all after all, eh Justin Bobby!?
Golden Globe nominations were announced early this morning. Atonement led the pack with seven nods, followed by the as yet unreleased Charlie Wilson's War with five nominations. I really love the Golden Globes because even comedies get a shot, as do TV shows. Plus, it just seems like one hell of a party. I hope people don't boycott due to the WGA strike.. that would really put a damper on mine and C. Howe's Fashion Preshow..
The Lavendar Lushes are still on a winning streak! We won our game last night 5-1. One of our girls scored her first goal, so now it's only me and my friend Heather that are scoreless. As I said, we both play defense so it's not like it's easy for us to score goals, but I decided to try some offense for the last 15 minutes of the game last night. I did get a few scoring chances, but it just didn't happen. It was very frustrating cause I had a few nice shots, just couldn't get them in the net. Oh well, we won and I should just let that go and stick to defense... Unless Heather somehow scores a goal. Then it's over..

Talk about speaking too soon
This was in my inbox directly after I got done with my last post. My timing is impeccable.
People are Strange
Last night, I took myself out on a date to the movies to see Before the Devil Knows You're Dead. Anyway, the movie begins with a sex scene between Marisa Tomei and Phillip Seymour Hoffman where he's doing her from behind. Well, these four women sitting in the front of the theater started giggling like 12 year olds that just found Daddy's Playboys! I was like.. ladies.. come on.. for real!? I mean.. yes.. sex scenes do make a lot of people uncomfortable, but they had to have been sitting 20 rows in front of me and I could still hear every giggle and "oh my goodness" uttered throughout the scene. I just found that to be weird..
So yes.. I took myself out on a date for many reasons:
1) I ran a whole mile at the gym without stopping. I walked for a few minutes, then ran another half-mile without stopping. I don't know what got into me, but it's scary to know that I'm capable of that.
2) J and I were supposed to go to the movies, but he was sick. I didn't think that was a good enough reason for me not to go.
3) I've really been jonesing for popcorn and the little theater popcorn is WAY better than the Cinema 8.
4) Bargain Night!
5) The movie I saw is more of an independent movie and I'm never sure how long they'll stay in the theaters around here (or if they'll come at all). I was pretty surprised at the amount of people in the theater last night, as I was pretty sure I'd be the only one in there. Then I realized the other two choices were Bee Movie and Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium. I guess the parents had to see something!
So, did I miss all the paparazzi rumblings or was she THAT discreet about it?
Ever wanted to live in a snowglobe?
Quick baseball note: The O's did NOTHING during the Winter Meetings and (unfortunately) the only name that's been mentioned in the last few weeks is Jay Gibbons, for his 15 game suspension. The Mitchell Report is coming to light, so we'll see how our favorites fair..
Tonight is the season finale of America's Next Top Model, which segueways into the WB's new reality trainwreck, Crowned. Yeah.. I won't be DVRing that. My DVR is going to be pretty bored in the near future. As I was looking through my upcoming programs to be taped, I realized there was very little to watch. I mean, most shows have finished all they had in the can before the Writer's Strike. Now, I probably like reality TV way more than the next guy (and way more than I should), but PLEASE end the strike! I really can't take it!
It's hump day.. act accordingly. Tonight's yet another soccer game and hopefully we can continue our winning streak, although tonight's team does look to be tough and one of our better players is sick. We'll see what happens!

Contradiction
I know we're all still in shock and awe over the Alex news, but here's something good to share with you. Well, I think it's good!
(PS - if you don't know what the Alex news is, read the post just prior to this one.. )

2 Weeks till Christmas
I'm happy to report I only know about a quarter of the songs on this list. Ok, I also only know a few of the songs on this list too.. Where the F is Dominick the Donkey!?
I watched Winter Passing last night. Gotta love a nice little independent film with great stars. Ed Harris (one of my favorite bald men EVER) and the re-pairing from Elf of Zooey Deschanel and Will Ferrell was a great cast. The movie is basically about this girl who returns home to Michigan after her mom kills herself so she can make some money from a publisher off old letters her parents wrote to each other. Both parents were prolific writers and their daughter's childhood seemed way past normal. When she returns she finds her father in dire straits, living in the garage, while a boarder and one of his ex grad students take care of the house. I guess you'd say it's a story about how some things aren't always what they seem. It was a decent way to spend an hour and a half. I really enjoy watching Zooey Deschanel, even though the whole movie I just wanted her to run a brush through her hair. She looked.. disheveled.. Maybe it was the cocaine (in the movie I mean.. what she does in her personal life is NONE of my business).
Sometimes you want to strangle your friends. They usually redeem themselves, but still. Example: My friend Tim lives in Florida, and his parents live there for part of the year. His parents are friends with my friend Lynn's mother (the one whose grandmother died last week). So, last Sunday, I called Tim to let him know so he could tell his parents. When I called, I could tell there was a lot of background noise AND that he was drunk, but he promised me he'd call his mom right after he got off the phone with me. I stopped by Lynn's house on Saturday night and his mom was telling me that she never heard from Tim's mom, which is weird. So, Sunday afternoon I texted him to see if he called his mom and the text he sent back to me was this: "?" Oh yeah.. I was livid! I was texting him back as he called me about it and I told him the deal. I'll give him credit - he felt pretty terrible. Apparently he'd been at the Miami Dolphins game and started drinking at 10 am.. By the time I called him around 6 he must have been a puddle! He promised me he'd call his mom right then and there and I have the utmost faith that he did. I love him to pieces, but sometimes I want to strangle him :).
J and I were going to catch a movie tonight, but he's sick. I might just go by myself. I could really go for some movie theater popcorn and the movie I want to see is at the theater that has bargain night tonight. I would like to see Before the Devil Knows You're Dead and I know no one will want to see it with me. I can't wait till Chris comes home. I already told him I want to see Atonement and Juno when he gets here, so I hope I get some free movie passes for Christmas!
Damn.. I guess this means I need to go to the gym too. Damn..
The Hills finale was kind of anticlimactic to me. Lauren got to go to Paris after all (and she went.. FINALLY!) Heidi and Spencer are up in the air, which I think everyone already knew, and Lauren's big news was that the Hills would air another season and the trip to Paris would be a part of it. Almost makes me wish I'd watched October Road instead.
I wish I had more stories, but this is the best I could do for today. I hope I redeemed myself for those that gave me shit (you know who you are). Don't let the weather get you down.
Shit... ya know that book, The Historian, that I've been unsuccessfully trying to read for about 8 months? I lost my bookmark. Oh well.. I probably needed to start it fresh again anyway. Damnit!! I'm never going to get through it..

Let's Get to It
Project Runway - The challenge was for everyone to update the fashion faux pas we've all lived through. Some examples are overalls, dancewear, neon colors, cut outs ad the baggy sweater. Chris was booted when he couldn't find a way to update the terrible trend of shoulder pads. He picked a pretty bad fabric for his jacket and it still looked like it had shoulder pads, which was NOT a good thing. The judges continued to say his looks were a bit too "costumey" which makes sense since that's his real job! I will miss him as he did have his entertaining moments, but he did get along so well with everyone that it just bored you. I mean, it was no Ricky and Victorya bitchfest on his team, that's for sure. I"m still pretty sure they're only keeping Ricky around because he likes to fight with everyone and god knows, that's entertainment. This was a pretty boring episode but it looks like next week will bring us back to normal as there's scandal galore. At least that's what the facial expressions in the previews made it look like!
America's Next Top Model - Ok, it's pretty sad but I seriously can't remember who got booted. I think it was Bianca, but my mind is a blank.
The Hills - tonight is the season finale and I can't f'n wait! I'm mortified by it myself, but I just can't look away. Rumor has it that Heidi and Spencer are now NOT getting married which would be the smartest thing that girl has ever done. However, I hear they are still together, so I guess we'll have to wait and see what goes on during the finale tonight. Granted, she's no brain surgeon so she'll probably go through with it eventually, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who could do without seeing Spencer Pratt (and his trainwreck doppelganger sister) weekly on their television set.
It was a whirlwind weekend. I had all sorts of things I wanted to get done on Sunday and I actually did! I managed to clean my bedroom and bathroom (it was way past time) and made it to the gym, all before 1:00. Tre and I went to lunch with Danny and I settled in for the night.. Or so I thought. I finished up all my Christmas cards and cleared out my DVR. Tre had a soccer team party for her high school kids, but on the way home she picked me up so we could go to our friend's house for the Mayweather-Hatton fight. I was rooting for Hatton, but unfortunately, Mayweather knocked him out in the 10th round. I lost 10 bucks on that damn fight too. Anyway, I had no intentions of getting drunk, but we got home around 2:30 and I was pretty well in the bag. I got up the next morning around 11 so Tre and I could pick up Kate and Brian to go to the Siena b-ball game. I was NOT feeling that great. It's funny.. every year around Christmas I get a real good drunk on, then end up sick for a few days. It's like my immune system shuts down, just when I need it the most. So, I felt like crap most of the day yesterday and most of the day today. I think I'll dope up on some Nyquil tonight and see where that gets me.
Last night, regardless of the crappy weather, J came down and we watched Superbad. I really didn't expect to like it, but it was pretty hysterical! I mean, we BOTH stayed awake for it, which lately, is a pretty big feat. Granted, he'd had a few red bulls and I was overtired, but let's not think about that. I was actually up most of the night, as I was all stuffed up but didn't want to take Nyquil as it was so late. I got a brand new alarm clock that actually worked, so J was able to get to work on time, even though the roads were pretty crappy when he left. Our driveway was a sheet of ice when I went out to start my car this morning, so I was pretty unsure of how the ride into work would be. It actually went just fine and there are no new dents on my car.. today.
I guess it's time for me to get a move on. I've got movies to watch and Christmas cards to write (if I don't fall asleep first). If you are a teacher, I hope you enjoyed your day off (and oh yeah, you suck). If you're not, I hope you were able to drive safe into work and enjoyed your Monday. Only 15 days till Christmas!

Sensory Overload
My Aunt Debbie had a pocketbook party last night. OH... MY... GOD... I walked into her living room and it was like heaven. I'd never been to one before and didn't know what to expect and boy, was i pleasantly surprised! I don't have any idea how I narrowed it down to what I got and I think I might have to have a party of my own in the near future so I can get some more! I bought myself an adorable printed Kate Spade bag and a Coach wallet. The wallet goes well with the brown leather Coach purse my mom got me for Christmas. I, in turn, got her a Coach bag and wallet for Christmas. So, now she's done! I had to leave or I would have bought myself the Gucci purse I stared at for an hour and the Burberry purse I've wanted for ages. It really was just way more than my body (and wallet) could handle.
Our soccer game went REALLY well on Wednesday night. We won 8-0. The other team was very physical and we were all over the field. They had one girl who played goal for the first half. Good god, she was a HOUSE! When she played the field the second half no one really pressured her because she kicked it so hard and right at you. My sister has bruises and ball marks embedded in her skin from where she got hit by a ball this girl kicked at her. They were really whiny too. Big girl kicked the ball right into my friend's hand but the ref didn't call a hand ball cause it went right back to Big Girl.. She bitched for at least 20 minutes. Funny how she had nothing to say when the ref called a hand ball on Tre when it hit her in the back! We're doing really well in this division but it seems that we'll play some of the better teams in the coming weeks. So yes, we're on a winning streak but we're not getting too full our ourselves. However, we did realize it feels much better to win once in a while than it does to lose every game, that's for sure!
More to come (Hopefully)... Happy Friday!!!

Let's Get It On
It IS hump day after all.. but (unfortunately) that's not what I was referring to.
Soccer game tonight, at the newly opened Afrim's dome in Latham. The team we're playing is decent, so hopefully we can pull from our pool of spectators for motivation and kick their ass. Ok, maybe not kick their ass, but play really well! That would work.
Heroes - So... they said "two heroes would fall" and they did: Nathan Petrelli was shot and is seemingly fighting for his life (can't Peter use his powers to bring him back?) and Niki/Jessica should have blown up in that building, all because Monica can't leave well enough alone. Heroes comes back in 2008, although we're not sure when. Another thing, Hiro buried Adam alive in a grave in Japan. Hell, if someone can live forever no matter what happens, might as well make them live it somewhere hellish, right!? Who shot Nathan? Not sure.. looks like it could be HRG, after his little discussion with Claire about being the whistle blower, he surely wouldn't want Nathan to do the same. And Elle... she's still kicking and might even like being a hero. However, the next installment is "Villains" so hopefully she'll get back to her bat-shit crazy ways in a short while.. ya know, like Elisa on Project Runway.
October Road - Ok, I love me some Eddie Letekka and his love for the full figured ladies, but if he doesn't give up "the secret" in the near future I'm going to jam my hands through the TV and wring his neck. Physical Phil's "Tour of Infidelity" idea was priceless, but I don't see Ikie and Owen buddying it up anytime soon. And how horrid was that wedding dress? I know it was 1977 and all, but please.. My mom's was in the early 70's and it wasn't that bad.. I mean.. by today's standards it wasn't that good, but it surely wasn't that bad! (No offense Mom - she always reads the blog on the most inconvenient days!!)
I only saw the first installment of Tin Man, but I'm looking forward to catching up on it this weekend, so I won't go there with anyone. For some reason I doubt many of my blogging buddies are looking forward to me talking about it, but I might just do it out of spite.
As I said, I got sucked into a Beauty and the Geek marathon this past weekend, forcing me to watch the finale last night. The money was won by Dave and Jasmine, not Sam and Nicole, who I was rooting for. I'm almost giddy about watching the new installment of this "social experiment" when it comes back to TV next year. Damn you Ashton Kutcher.. First, "Dude, Where's My Car" and now this!? You're killing me Smalls...
Not much else to go with.. it's snowing here.. been going pretty slow and steady the last few hours. It's the pretty kind of snow.. I hope..

I hope..
Just one more reason to watch Reaper
Sam's new girlfriend doesn't know who her father is (Sam thinks it's the Devil). However, in the beginning of the episode she told Sam her mother used to be a backup singer for Huey Lewis and that her father was one of the band members.. Yep.. one of the News.. Turns out she made up the story, but it's still a Huey Lewis shout out...
Ok.. two reasons... the song that closed the show was by Guster. I mean.. what more could you ask for?
More TV stuff later when I get the time.. After all, Heroes ended this week and people are quite possibly... dead... kind of.
PS - I never got to mention this during my Project Runway rant last week, but even though I don't sometimes love his clothes, I adore Steven. He says the funniest shit regardless, but his delivery is priceless! When talking about the Tiki Barber challenge from last week he said (This is obviously not a direct quote, but I'm going to use quotations anyway) "We were all feeling... well, what is it that the people felt on the Titanic? Oh yeah.. PANIC." I think he might even try to take over Santino's Tim Gunn impression... As long as Steven doesn't get all Red Lobster and Andrae on me, I think he'll be fine...

Winter Walk 2007
Here's me and Lindsey at Savoia.... Yep... Savoia.. Oh yeah.. Savoia was invaded by the white women.. I don't think they minded.
This pic is from the pregame party at Fish's.. That's me.. corrupting my friend's children..
I don't think there was anyone in our group that felt good on Sunday. We went to Fish's house for her annual Winter Walk pregame, then headed down to Savoia to meet up with my aunt, uncle and cousin. This was an actual line that was thrown at me that night: "Girl, the minute I saw those hips and thighs I was like DAMN, I've got to come over and talk to you." Did it work? No, but I it sure as hell didn't hurt the ego! What can I say? Black men love me.. It's all about the ass. Anyway, I persuaded J to come get me around midnight and I'm pretty sure even that was too late. I was a MESS.. He basically had to tell me our entire car conversation when we spoke the next day. I woke up around 8 am with what felt like a heartbeat in my skull, took some aspirin and went back to bed. I felt much better when I woke up again around 11. Tre and I went to get my car and some grease and we settled in on the couch for the balance of the afternoon. I got totally sucked into a Beauty and the Geek marathon on MTV (on accident) and that's basically how I spent my day.
Tonight I had to go to a wake for my friend Lynn's grandmother. She died on Friday morning and I tried to get together with Lynn all weekend, because I really didn't want the first time I saw her to be at the wake. I wanted to get the whole crying thing out of the way, cause I knew I wouldn't be able to hold it together. I mean, I didn't know her grandmother's name for most of my life, because I called her Gram! She was practically my grandmother too and ever since my grandparents died, grandparent wakes kind of get to me more than they probably should. Anyway, I was doing really well.. then I got to the receiving line. Her aunt says "you girls have to take care of Lynn" and the tears started welling up in my eyes. I got to Lynn's mom and somehow didn't bawl my brains out, but then came Lynn. We both just started to cry, blaming the other one for making them do so. I tried to hold it together but I just couldn't. I know there were other people there I probably should have stopped to see, but seeing Lynn was more than I could take. It's so weird to know exactly what a person is feeling, and not be able to do anything to help them.
Well, on a lighter note, two of my friends had babies this past week. My friend Katie, who I went to high school with and is now living in France, had a baby boy, Eric Paul Yurkewicz, this past weekend. He's very adorable and she was lucky enough to go into labor two weeks early, so they can still have not only their first Christmas in France, but their first Christmas as parents, so congratulations go out to Katie and Adam. I can't wait to see the new addition when they make it back to the States sometime this spring. My friend Crystal (she's my friend Chad's sister) had a baby of her very own last week. I can't wait to make it to Philly to see her and her husband's new house and now, their new baby! Congratulations to Crystal and Mark, and of course, to Chad for finally becoming an uncle! Poor Crystal... now Chad has someone new to corrupt.
I just finished watching Trainspotting. Interesting.. For those of you who've seen it, I couldn't watch the toilet scene. Absolutely repulsive, but I'm glad I finally saw it after hearing so much about it, It certainly lived up to the hype. I also watched Me and You and Everyone We Know this weekend.. Again.. interesting, but I can't say I really liked it. I think it just wasn't what I thought it was going to be and if I could explain it any other way, I would!
I'd write more, but Heroes is on and I need to concentrate since it's the season ender (for now) and with the writers' strike, lord knows when the next time I'll see a new episode will be. Also, I watched the first installment of Tin Man last night and while I'm FAR from a sci fi geek of any sort, I thought it was entertaining. But those damn flying monkeys were creepy..
